    Recce choices

Re: Recce choices Take a peek at the Centurion Arms Recce upper while you're at it. Monty uses the same tube as the Mk. 12 (literally, the same piece of steel, just 2" shorter) so if you're going to shoot Mk.262 from it, you can't have a more appropriate barrel/chamber.

    Rifle Scopes Scope mounting?

I had to flip a coin deciding to post this here or in the semiauto rifle subforum but it's more optics-centered than weapon-centered so here goes. I'm getting closer to finishing my SPR build and now that I have both optics and a mount, some questions have come up. Re: a SPR in general, I like...

    Recommend a dual purpose buttstock

Re: Recommend a dual purpose buttstock If you're going to use anywhere between a rifle-length and carbine-length gas system, the Vltor A5 along with it's proprietary buffer wouldn't be a bad idea...

    Free Float Handguard

Re: Free Float Handguard The OP could also chop down the FSB to make a low-pro gas block. With some creative Dremel work to cut off the delta ring, that opens up some nice and very easy-to-install options like the Centurion C4 rail system as a possibility.

Anyone have a good list or sit for a Go Bag

Re: Anyone have a good list or sit for a Go Bag The current issue of Surefire "Combat Tactics" (got my copy @ Barnes and Noble) has some decent targeted lists.

    Rifle Scopes Remmy R-25

Re: Remmy R-25 You can also grab a SS 3-9 off the SampleList for $499--it's within budget (not by much) but it's a hell of an optic...

    Gunsmithing Red Jacket Lead Time

Re: Red Jacket Lead Time Thing is, they were supposed to be actually fairly decent at AK work before Tons of Dumb came out but now they look like a bunch of buffoons and even if I were in the market for a Kalashnikov, I would go elsewhere...

Need A Rugged BUIS Set For A Budget Build

Re: Need A Rugged BUIS Set For A Budget Build You ought to be able to grab a set of MBUS for less than a c-note. They're probably not as durable as metal sights, but for the price, they really can't be beat.

Quality Gunsmith in or close to MT

Re: Quality Gunsmith in or close to MT It's a bit of a drive and I sure hope you're not in a hurry, but Dave Young up in Tracy does damn good work. It's been a while so I don't have contact info for him but I've had a few guns worked on by him and can vouch for the quality of his work.

Rifle Scopes Need help picking out scope.

Re: Need help picking out scope. The SWFA non-HD fixed 10x scope is within the "-ish" part of your price range and has most of other features you want. There aren't any on the SampleList now (which would save a few bucks) but if you're patient and keep checking back, one might turn up sooner...

Rifle Scopes New Leupold 3-9x40 VX-R Patrol

Re: New Leupold 3-9x40 VX-R Patrol Dang, I thought I had decided on a SS 3-9 but this looks impressive as heck too. Trying to be realistic, 9x is probably as much magnification as I need (provided the adjustments are accurate/repeatable) for as far as I'd have any business shooting at a...

    Rifle Scopes Picatinny Rail Riser

Re: Picatinny Rail Riser Or, as another option, you could break out the Dremel tool, chop the stock FSB down into a low-pro gas block, then install a longer handguard to cover it and provide a place to attach a flip-up front BUIS. If you go with a handguard that extends over the now low-pro...

    ammo testing protocol?

Since my DMR upper from Centurion should be in my grubby hands this week sometime, can anyone recommend a procedure for testing different loads? I'm curious what advantage, if any, I'd gain from shooting 8 5-shot groups vs. 4 10-shot groups or if there's another regimen that would be more...
