Hunting & Fishing Elk hunting caliber

300Win Mag or bigger; it has the best bullet selection out there. Get a 1:10 twist so you can use the bigger projectiles if you desire. You can also download based on what you are shooting like Remington does with their power level stuff in 300RUM. In theory, you could go from shooting 220gr...

Three Q:s in one regarding 338LM suitable actions.

Holy cow......they must subtract a dollar or two per mile shipping it over here.

Three Q:s in one regarding 338LM suitable actions.

Just curious; what does a TRG cost over there? I bought one a few months ago and thought it was a bargain compared to having one built......about 1/2 price. For cans, the Titan QD has been great though getting the muzzle brake/adapter is a pain in the a$$. AAC needs to support their product a...

    Savage 11lrh- 1200m?

Get the 300WM. Way more common with the best selection of bullets out there. I believe the army officially adopted it a few years ago for the XM2010. They claim it's good to 1500m with their new 220gr OTM loading. Once fired brass is all over the place for reloading; reload costs gotta be...

    AIAX 300wm Build questions.

I've got an old McMillian M-86.....late 80's mfg, chambered in 300 Win Mag. It's always shot 190gr SMKs at 2850'/s using 74gr IMR7828 and 215 primers. On it's second barrel, both of which have been a 1:12 twist, navy contour I believe. 5 shot groups are inside an inch at 300yds and it's taken...

    Preparing for the rebarrel

Go with the tighter twist; if you ever have an itch to shoot sub-sonic stuff/mount a can on it you'll be getting more bang (technically less) for your buck. A sub-sonic 208gr Amax through a can is stupid quiet in a bolt gun.

    Price Gouging

Most of the larger stores aren't playing the gouging game; Midway just sent out a great email explaining their take on the situation. I feel a little butt-hurt, just forked out $295 for 8# of Retumbo on GB......it's only money :(

    Case trimmer suggestions

Or the Gracey, it's a little less expensive. I've got both; recently upgraded my Gracey with parts Giraud makes specifically for upgrading the Gracey, go figure. Both index off the shoulder which may/may not work if neck sizing.

Ok, I am looking into a custom 338 Lapua build...

Re: Ok, I am looking into a custom 338 Lapua build... I went with a TRG and couldn't be happier. The gun is a steal at around 3k but the attachments, which I didn't buy, are far from a good deal. Went with a Near-Manufacturing 25MOA base which is fantastic and of very high quality...

    Varget in short supply?

Re: Varget in short supply? 22-250........38 grains of H380; have been using it for 20 years and it produces 3700'/s plus or minus 10. The guys at Cabelas said they have a 100 ton shipment of various powders from Australia sitting at the docks getting held up by customs......I guess that's...

    .338 L/M brass burning through

Re: .338 L/M brass burning through Get a set of Redding competition shell holders......or start neck sizing. Slower powder as well. I use 91gr Retumbo for around 2700' and 102gr H50BMG for 2650' but it's fairly compressed. The latter works better with the titan-qd and I don't know why...

338 Lapua and Hodgdon H50BMG powder anyone?

Re: 338 Lapua and Hodgdon H50BMG powder anyone? I use 101 grns of it behind 300gr Bergers. It's slightly compressed and pushes them 2700'/s. 5 shot groups are a little over 3" at 500 yds with a Titan-qd hanging off the end. These are stuffed deep enough to fit the mag; if set 0.02 off the...

I think I just got swindled on 50 bmg ammo

Re: I think I just got swindled on 50 bmg ammo Doesn't look too bad for surplus components. I've found some of the stuff to be loaded on the hot side; works good for busting rocks but leaves a bunch to be desired in punching paper. How much did the stuff cost is a big factor too.

    338 Lapua subsonic loads

Re: 338 Lapua subsonic loads Uhhhh........need to clear this up. The subsonic stuff isn't worth a crap past 400m. The long range stuff on varmints is using full power loads (101gr H50BMG with a 300gr Scenar); they also get a little meat on both ends. I use the can while varmint hunting so...

    338 Lapua subsonic loads

Re: 338 Lapua subsonic loads Thanks for the replies. Yes, I know a 338LM isn't intended for subsonic applications but I bet you would be impressed, my wife sure was. Zero noise and recoil while tagging 5 out of 5 clay pigeons at 300yds. Most of my shooting is on the 1000yd range and I can...

    338 Lapua subsonic loads

Finally got the TRG42/338LM broke in; then added Titan-QD. One of my buddies brought some Cor-Bon 300gr subsonic rounds ($5+ each!), it made noise than the 10/22 with a sparrow. We pulled one apart; it appears to have Trail Boss powder in it (20.2 grains) but I can't be sure. Does anybody...

    300 blackout

Getting a new build under way in 300 blackout. What barrel twist do folks use with a 240gr smk at 1000'/sec. Got a can on the end so I don't want any unstable spoiler rounds causing problems. thanks in advance, cd

    New rifle choice

I'm looking at getting a new rifle in 338 Lapua. Stuck with this caliber because I already have a Titan-QD can for it, the gun and brake/adapter never came in yet.......dealer screw up. Have always wanted a TRG-42 just because. It looks to be around $3K, any suggestions for putting the money...
