Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

The "nature" of the powder, please explain? Are you referring to the burning characteristics? How the curve graphs?

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

Deviating ever so slightly, I mentioned something about horizontal energy eaten up by rotational energy (don't hate me if I'm confusing semantics). So, on average, all else being equal, will a faster twist barrel have less velocity than a slower twist? I guess I'm thinking that an extreme twist...

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

Actually it does. I've never heard it explained like that, but now I'm sitting here with that 'duh' feeling you get when you just learned something you intuitively knew all along but didn't realize it. lol So that's why 22LR (small powder volume relative to big bore cals) barrels are typically...

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

Now I'm tracking. For illustrative purposes imagine a tank filled with water. If you suddenly expand the tank size without effecting the volume of water, the level of water will decrease relative to, say, the side of the tank. Now, if you continuously add water at the rate the tank is expanding...

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

So, you're saying the majority of the velocity a bullet is going to achieve as a function of the powder used occurs within the first few inches? Then why do we have ≥30" barrels? I've always heard that you typically use a slower powder for a heavier bullet because 1. the heavier a bullet, the...

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

We've all had those guns that seem to defy what's 'normal.' lol

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

Okay, now here's the interesting part... 1. Longer barrel, heavier bullet, slower powder, faster tw? 2. Shorter barrel, heavier bullet, faster powder, slower twist ? 3. Longer barrel, lighter bullet, faster powder, slower twist? 4. Shorter barrel, lighter bullet, even faster powder, even...

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

Let's put primers on hold a bit and consider twist. What would be our assumptions here? Lighter bullet, slower twist (think 155gr 308 w/ a 11.25tw over a 215 with a 9tw) Faster velocity, slower twist (so you don't spin the bullet apart) Longer barrel, slower twist

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

I'm exploring the relationship between all of them so, for example, if you have a little 16" shorty 308 you'd want to go with a lighter bullet and faster powder, right? And, if you had a 30" 300NM, you'd want to run a heavier bullet for maximum ballistic efficiency. To run the heavier bullet...

Powder v. Bullet v. Barrel Relationship

Does this sound right? Powder Faster powder, lighter bullet. Slower powder, heavier bullet Bullet Heavier bullet, longer barrel. Lighter bullet, shorter barrel. Barrel Shorter barrel, faster powder. Longer barrel, slower power Yes, there are a million variables that could affect the...

New to gas guns, 6mm arc build advice

Larue is supposed to make a good product. I've never run his rifles, just his mounts. But if they're any indication of quality and reliability then go for it

    7-6.5 PRC

I should also note that the targets above represent 3 bullets (166 ATips, 180 Hybrids, and 180 SMKs) and H4831SC. I have also tried N165 but I don't have any of those targets. Recommendation for the next powder to try? Just one condition, I have to be able to get it lol

    7-6.5 PRC

I haven't, but that's a good thought. Everything is still tight and no movement can be felt or seen, but I'll switch it out and see if anything changes. One thing at a time though.

    7-6.5 PRC

Quick update for those interested. When I actually started to develop a load, I ran into accuracy (really precision) issues. I couldn't get anything to group. I'm including some target scans for reference. I put five in a hand size group at a mile, but somehow I couldn't get the gun to group...

Patches clean but bore still smooth black

I would just add that if you hadn't had the bore cam you never would've know there was an issue, because there's isn't one. My point is this: bore cams have a way of birthing issues, not necessarily identifying issues. Guys (myself included) get themselves a shiny new bore cam and all of a...

Coup De Grâce, New Action from American Rifle Company, $899 WOW!

I know this question has likely been answered somewhere in the last 39 pages but I haven't been able to keep up...limited time and all. I see that lefty long with 0.59. bf CDGs are an option on the pre-order website, however I'm wondering what kind time frame I'll be looking at. I know this...

    MB Camp XL Spigot

Anybody know of an extended spigot for the BA Comp? It's gonna be tough to stretch my chronograph to the end of the barrel with the relatively short forend the chassis has so an extended spigot would be helpful

Coup De Grâce, New Action from American Rifle Company, $899 WOW!

Is that what the wait time is for the left hand actions, a year? I've been looking back through all this data to find that estimate lol. I need a lefty long which is at the back of the production schedule on the bottom so to speak. If they start running. LH LA in a year, I consider that a win

    Chassis for Coup De Grace

Is there any fitment constraints for the CDG that will limit what stock/chassis a buyer can use?
