    Higher Velocity = Lower Penetration?

Re: Higher Velocity = Lower Penetration? Oodin - With that concept in mind - would you think there may be a 'sweet spot' for maximum penetration? Like the article said, 1250-1300 for the bullets they were testing. I agree with Training Wheels, but with the theory I mentioned and you agreed...

    Higher Velocity = Lower Penetration?

I thought I'd ask this here on SH for a different perspective from you guys. I was having a discussion about dangerous game cartridges and someone threw up a link talking about how beyond a certain point (1250-1300 fps) an ammo manufacturer's testing showed that above those speeds, the higher...

    My New Toy

Re: My New Toy Hey, 80 bucks and I got mine. *shrugs* he's on his own. =P I put about 50 rounds through it today. He had the scope so off, I couldn't even see -where- I was missing to start with. Still no where near dialed in, but was time to come home for dinner. ^.^ I need a clear, near 0...

    My New Toy

Re: My New Toy I seen cool thumbhole rifle stocks at riflestocks.com but they're all wood. I intend to have the gun painted, would the wood stock be a problem for that?

    My New Toy

Re: My New Toy Yeah, I seen the exact model in walmart for $220-230 bucks, scope I spotted online for around $110-130. I dont know if the gun came with it or what, but I have a Rocky Mountain soft case that he had the gun in. It seems pretty descent itself, and a 50-round box of ammo.

    My New Toy

Just bought a new little trainer/plinker from a buddy of mine. Marlin 917v .17 HMR w/ a BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40 scope (bipod I added myself). Its in near-new condition, less than 300 rounds through it. Thanks for recommending that I pick it up FALex! I love it! Best $80 bucks I ever spent.

    Marlin 917 Thoughts?

Re: Marling 917 Thoughts? Standard stock. But I might put an aftermarket stock on it and stuff. So it's a great little gun, eh? What do you think I should offer him? He's refusing to name a price... I have no idea what a used one might go for?? Just a ballpark would be appreciated.

    Marlin 917 Thoughts?

Hey gang, a friend is selling his Marlin 917 HMR (dont know the exactly model). It's used, but less than 500 rounds through it. Wood furnature. Anyway, I was wondering if many of you had much experience with it, what a descent used price would be, and if it'd be a descent 'trainer' or fun...

Thinking of buying a Rock River 10.5" .223...

I'll be setting it up with holographic sights and stuff, pretty much a close-quarter type set up. But I'm curious to know what sort of realistic groupings I could see on average, at say 100 yards or 200 yards? I know, I know - twist rate, ammo selection, etc, etc. makes this all variable. Just...
