LC Brass with strange crimp marks

I just got some LC 5.56 brass and alot of it has strange crimp marks. Instead of the circular crimp, there are 4 dash marks. the dash marks are also not on the periphery but a little further out. Kind of what you would do when you stake something with a punch - you would move off of the edge...

LC Brass - how important is it to sort it by year?

I am doing my best to develop precision 5.56 reloads. How important is it to sort the LC brass by year? I have plenty of 13 thru 17 brass, but when it gets older than that, then its about a dozen cases per year. Should I just discard this brass as it will take 8 years for just 100 rounds?

How to adjust for primer pocket swage

I am adjusting my RCBS primer pocket swager for 5.56. RCBS says to adjust the tool so that there is 0.125" gap between the swager rod & head to start with, and then adjust until the desired amount of swaging is achieved. How much is desired? Obviously swaging more than is required is not...

    Neck Tension

Accurate Mag & AI. Just measured them and am getting 2.88" I can increase COAL by 0.050" but it still will leave me w/ allot of bullet jump (I would have to remeasure my barrel as it was deep enough that I knew that I would never be jamming my bullet into the rifling). Guess I am conservative in...

    Neck Tension

I have been shooting 178 gr. A-Max bullets & 43.0 gr. of varget & 43.0 gr. of 4064 out of FC brass out of a Remington 700 AAC-SD. COAL is 2.818 which is as long as I can get in a magazine (AI mag) but still leaves ALLOT of bullet jump. Stock barreled action w/ about 1500 rounds in a Manners...

    Neck Tension

No idea on the neck tension as I have not previously paid attention to it. I am reloading for 308 and getting 5" groups at 600 yards. Allot of it I am sure is me not the ammo. I am trying to give you all the information that I can. Still improving as a shooter & a reloader, and, always...

    Neck Tension

I have been reloading .308 using a Lee FL die, and sizing to push the shoulder back 0.002". Should I switch to a body die and collet necksizer to better control neck tension? For those not fans of the Lee collet die, what methods do you use to control neck tension?

How Accurate is Hornady 55gr. FMJ-BT

Not really worth it then. 68 gr. match bullets are not that much more than the 55gr. FMJ. Thanks for the direct comparison - that really helped me make my choice!

    7.62 vs. .308 Brass

I knew the case volume was smaller, and if I load, I would work up new loads. Is there a velocity drop for 7.62 vs. commercial brass? Typically, how much is the charge reduction (I will work up my loads from a safe starting load) but just am curious.

    Fully Processed Once fired brass

I have some LC 5.56 fully processed brass. It is fully resized (back to SAAMI?). I made a mistake when ordering it. Should I see if they would take it back? Only real concern is the brass being fully resized & the subsequent reduction of the brass life. Or, is fully resized back down to...

How Accurate is Hornady 55gr. FMJ-BT

How Accurate is the Hornady 55gr. FMJ-BT bullet? I am looking for some cheap practice. This bullet is abut 1/2 the cost of their 68/75 BTHP & 1/3 the cost of their ELD-M. Not for long range - just up to 400 yards or so.

Shooting off of Bipod w/ Body In-Line w/ Rifle

What do you mean by this? Do you put the heal of the stock just below the collar bone or what 'pocket' are you talking about?

Shooting off of Bipod w/ Body In-Line w/ Rifle

I kind of came to this conclusion - that there is no way to get my nose on the charging handle. I will put my head in a comfortable position and move the scope back for proper eye relief. One other issue that I have when lined up in line with the rifle is that the heel of the stock really digs...

Shooting off of Bipod w/ Body In-Line w/ Rifle

I used to shoot prone off a bipod w/ my body at a 15 degree angle. I am changing so that my body is directly in line w/ the rifle. Not so much for an AR15 but more so to be more consistent in heavier recoiling rifles (.308, 300WM). Anyway, when I would shoot w/ my body at an angle, my nose would...

Have not kept track of # of Rounds thru the Brass...

I FL size. I set the die for minimal resizing (can feel slight drag on the bolt when chambering a round). I have only had to trim the cases once. The loads are not super hot but not exactly mild either. I run 43.0 grains of Varget or 4064 under a 178 grain bullet.

    7.62 vs. .308 Brass

Is the primary advantage of .308 brass a little more case capacity? What would be the downside of using 7.62x51 brass?

    Anneal Cases?

How many of you anneal cases? How often do you anneal?

Have not kept track of # of Rounds thru the Brass...

I have a bunch of 308 brass that has been reloaded multiple times. I have not kept track of how many times but am guessing that it is somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 or 7 times. The brass has not been annealed. It still looks good, but should I toss it? What is the worst that will happen...

    Which Bore Sighter?

Understood. Just hate starting at 25 yards just to hit paper. It would be nice to use a bore sighter to hit paper at 100 yds. At that point, I can get it to POI within two more shots. On a bolt gun, it's not a big deal to pull the bolt & look down the barrel. On the AR, not the end of the...

    Good Powder for 80gr. .223 (AR15)

Beginning to develop precision loads for my AR15. Will be loading 73 gr. & 80 gr. ELD-M for my 22" barreled AR. What are some good powders? My go to .308 powder was Varget & 4064. I do have some RL-15, Win 748 and BL-C(2) which I see in my Hornady manual for 5.56.
