    Carbon Barrel cracked??

Apropo of nothing, here's a rando vid (re: cryo treatment) on how Krieger does their barrels. Extreme cold shouldn't necessarily affect a well-done carbon fiber wrap based on aero and space applications.

FULL LENGTH SIZING AND BRASS HYSTERESIS

The point of annealing is to stress-relieve the work-hardened neck and shoulders to reduce splits. Here's a case diagram (lower left) that shows the hardness gradient of standard GI 5.56 brass. As the cases are drawn you want the head to be hard and the shoulders and necks softer. For...

5;56 velocity change and don't know why

How many rounds down the barrel? As your throat advances you'll get some blow-by. How old is the powder? All nitrocellulose powders start to decompose the moment they're manufactured. Diphenylamine is usually added as a preservative but it can't stop oxidation.

FULL LENGTH SIZING AND BRASS HYSTERESIS

From Stevenson 's (and others), every time a case is sized the case grows and the case walls thin. It was interesting to read firing has more of a work-hardening effect than sizing. The spinning the case in a drill while holding to a torch flame (without a temperature or time standard) was...

A friendly accuracy challenge. Beat the match conditioned M14's/M1A's! (Piston-driven rifles)

Great group and placement. Hun targets are tough as there's really no distinct aiming point to reference. The iron sight AR-10 and SR-25 left the long range M14 behind them almost 20 years ago.

FULL LENGTH SIZING AND BRASS HYSTERESIS

There are a number of possible fixes for the poors who scavenge range brass or are gifted machinegun brass. Anneal first. 1. Try small base dies. 2. Try sizing first with a 30-06 small base body die, then size again with a 308 small base die. 3. Spend more money on a custom Warner Tool...

How has your mail service been lately? USPS thread

Georgia mail service ranks last in the nation behind all states and territories according to the USPS Inspector General. They suck. It saddens me since my dad is a retiree of both the Army and the USPS. The postal service is not the same organization as when he worked there. A travesty as...

    White oak armament accuracy

Nez' barrels with the hard nitriding will keep you in really good stead for long life per barrel. My son is very happy with his. Nez turned a $40 Green Mountain blank into my son's superior 16-inch carbine barrel. ... to make up for de-railing, my son just bought a replacement White Oak...

Question for Forster Co-Ax press owners

If you use a short handle and a throw limiter pin the handle will rest leaning toward the loader rather than the far wall -- more like this:.

    White oak armament accuracy

Yikes. My son had similar problems with a few other premium barrels from decent 'smiths until we talked about it in some detail. He lost a boat-load of primers and was blaming his ammo before we brain-stormed and trouble-shot. I was loading his 80s and 80.5s to USAMU 5.56 length (2.500" COAL)...

Help me finding a new butt stock for my AR!

LWRC stocks are very good, plus you can put tungsten rods in the battery storage tubes to balance out heavier barrels. There's just a skoshi cheek rest (I can't use a prominent rest like the LMT SOPMOD due to neck fusion):

    Let's talk remington 700 police..

Tactical Rifles had AI magazine bottom metal that required a little (gunsmith) inletting. Plenty of other good ones. This is a 700 Varmint that started as a 700 Police. I had the action trued and bedded, and a half-inch chopped off the rear of the factory barrel so it could be re-chambered...

    AR-10 vs a FN-Fal

I like M14s but that's a real stretch. I've never seen, heard of, nor read of a precision FAL. The USAMU set the long range interservice rifle team 1000-yard record at Quantico in 2012 using AR-10s, besting all previous M1, M14, and M16 scores.
