For those who like the old guns... this is just a wonderful video!

Sihr - thanks for posting. Great to see real craftsmen, very honest, down-to-earth guys....especially after the "made for TV" tards at Red Jacket and Gunsmoke!

Trying to Locate M85 transit case

If you get stuck, let me know.....Peter isn't that far from me and helped me out a lot on my No32 scope....I may be able to dig up some contact details for you. Sounds like the M85 cases are going (gone?) the same way as the L42 transit cases and the old Chest No15!

Trying to Locate M85 transit case

Gil9713, looks like you have all the bases covered in the UK. One thought...maybe a long shot and maybe something you've already done...have you tried contacting Peter Laidler? He's normally not far away if you are a member of milsurps.com and a very approachable and helpful bloke.

Trying to Locate M85 transit case

Gil9713, Not sure where you are located or if you want to deal outside the US but, if you're OK with this, I'd recommend you contact Norman Clark Gunsmiths in the UK. They have three M85's in stock right now and a great inventory of PH parts. They may be the guys to help you?

    Last round jamming on 1903-A3

No problem, you're welcome. When it's fixed let us know what the problem was.

    Last round jamming on 1903-A3

Yep, that's pretty much what seems to be the difference between the 1903/A1 follower and the A3/A4 followers. If all seems as per the pics, the p[arts are the correct ones and you have asssembled it as per the manual, not sure what else to suggest, other than as first post to get it to a...

    Last round jamming on 1903-A3

Heres' some pics from the War Department Ordnance Maintenance Manual for the 1903,A1, A3 and A4 dated 20th January 1944: Text on disassembly/assembly:

    Last round jamming on 1903-A3

anvil, yes on the 1903 mags the spring is held in place at the front of the follower by sliding under two protrusions on the underside of the follower. Poyer calls them "fingers" in his book. I'd imaging the spring needs to be attached on the A3 followerr too...otherwise it's just going to...

I'm "that guy"with the worst luck with gunsmiths!!!

As others have said....canted action, piss-poor finishing. You have every right to be pissed and to expect better. Even without the alleged damage, that would have been enough for me to refuse to accept it back! Tool or not, it is your stock/action/parts bought with your money. If you want to...

    Last round jamming on 1903-A3

:) Sure, understood. I've had a look at my 1903 (I think the only difference is that the 1903A3 had a stamped follower?) Poyer mentions that what he describes as the "Type 4" (stamped not milled) is a unit comprising the top stamped part ((with the rib and fingers) being "spot welded to...

    Last round jamming on 1903-A3

Joop...I think it'd pretty hard to get it round the wrong way. All the pics I have of the various followers show them being narrow at the front end and wider at the rear. Not sure it'd even be possible to fit it the wrong way round?

    Last round jamming on 1903-A3

You know the old saying about curiosity killing the cat? And hey...we're guys....we like taking stuff apart! But I know I've regretted doing so many times...even as I've been doing it ;) Is the spring over compressed or out of alignment to the vertical? Forget the "redneck" solutions...

    Crap crap crap ...

STOP POSTING THE PICS!!! PLEASE!! As a recovering Enfield addict...it's all getting too much to stand!! :D Great looking rifle MJ1! With the No32 it just looks the perfect package No5 is back on top of my "must have" list now

Statement from Kestrel. Battery corrosion. Must Read.

Great to see Kestrel taking action in response to the concerns voiced here on the Hide. However... Surely, if a manufacturer knows that there is a danger of leakage using a specific type of batteries but still goes ahead and fits said batteries as standard, from-the-factory specification...

    Not happy with Kestrel!!!!!

bribri - FWIW my opinion is that if the batteries you had in the unit were the original ones supplied by Kestrel and they knew that this problem might occur, it is irrelevant who made the batteries. Kestrel put them in there so it is their responsibility to warn purchasers that this problem is...

    Looking for quality bore guide

Another vote for Lucas...have 6 or 7 of them now in various calibres/actions. Great kit and Mike is an extremely helpful and professional guy to deal with.

    Not happy with Kestrel!!!!!

Known risk of damage with a certain (alkaline?) batteries....Kestrel believe this is not their problem/liability? No brainer. Manufacturer fits the correct/recommended batteries as standard. Who's going to object to spending a few extra $ on a unit this price for peace of mind knowing it...
