New barrel for my Howa or another rifle for big game?

I think the .284 will do fine. Put 2 holes in both lungs and things tend to die. You might have to single feed the .284 in a short action. I'm not super familiar with the Howa and what OAL they can manage from a short action. The benefits of having a custom chambered barrel are the accuracy...

    223 Trainer Build

I have had good luck just buying a bolt head and a Criterion barrel in 223 wylde for my tl3s. 4 of us shoot in my household. It's going to take a significant amount of business building before I decide it is worth it to build 4 new identical 223s for trainers. Swapping barrels works like a dream.

    25X-30X optics on a budget

No wonder shit costs so much at Brownells. I can see a limited time satisfaction guarantee, but "ever" is crazy. That said, I still buy there because I have always had good CS from them, and they put a ton of stuff on prize tables in the midwest.

    25X-30X optics on a budget

xtr3...I bought the 5.5-30made in USA version before the 3i and the Pro. It was worth the $1700 I paid. At $1400 they are a steal. They can be found for around $1200 if you look in the right places and ask the right questions.

Anyone else ever do business with Vortex's service department?

It was an AMG. Vortex was the oem. A bunch of people that have no problem pissing off companies if there product is junk, like Ilya, have recommended the AMG. I think I was just not very lucky when it came to issues with it. It was also the scope I used for most of my centerfire shooting,and...

Anyone else ever do business with Vortex's service department?

I've had nothing but good experiences with Vortex CS. I usually deal with Larry. I have had many problems with an AMG 6-24. They have gone out of their way to make it right. So much so that I will not post what they did on the forum for fear that people will take advantage of their desire...

    Savage bolt guns

I have a lot of savage rifles. I try as hard as possible to put together a lego gun on my customs and not shoot my savages. The ones I have are older and were insanely accurate out of the box. The feeding and smoothness have been shit on all of them. I learned a great deal about making them...

Reusing old brass in a new barrel

I hate buying brass. I figure out a way to size it to fit the new chamber if at all possible. I run mild loads for the most part and get 20+ firings on most brass. I'm also not shooting benchrest, so once something is shooting 3/8 moa or under on a match gun or 1/2 moa or under on a hunting...

Here to stir pot on seating depth

The jump doesn't matter. Usually a seating depth that shoots lights out will do so until the barrel starts slowing down.

22 Creed - Why isn’t it more popular?

What's old is new again. 22/250 will give decent barrel life if used for hunting situations like calling coyotes or shooting ground hogs. Take it to the range and run long strings or take it to the prarie dog towns and the barrel life isn't as good. 22 creed is pretty close to 22/243. Even a...

    Rifle issue. Wtf?

It is the high velocity that causes the problem. That bullet moving 2900 fps would be fine, likely. (2900x720)/7=298,286 rpm Slow the load down and the bullet is stable and won't self destruct. The bullet manufacturers can't control every variable. I like to run 7 twist barrels in 6 Dasher...

    Rifle issue. Wtf?

I personally don't think it is stability. An sg of 1.0 will typically shoot a sub half moa group at 200 yards if the gun is chambered well and the barrel blank is good. The bc and stability at distance will suffer. One thing I do have a fair amount of experience with is bullet failures. I...

    223 aics

Is the bullet running into the breech face on the barrel? That is the biggest issue I have with mag failures in tl3 and origin actions. Also, the spring in those mags is stiff. The first couple rounds are hard to strip off the stack. The accurate metal mags are much better.

    Savage Model 10 223 woes.

On guns without pinned rails, I glue them to the gun. I use devcon steel epoxy and do the same process as bedding except I prep the surfaces to get a good bond. After bond torque the screws to spec. Also, bed the scope rings. This has fixed any scope issues for me. It could also be the...

    XTR3 and seeing trace

Seeing "trace" (or the bullet flying) with a 22lr doesn't require a nice scope. I see bullets fly whenever the light conditions and background are conducive. I have seen consistently in glass as lowly as a Midas Tac 4-16 and a Strike eagle 5-25. The XTR3 is good enough to see trace in most...

    ACC vs Foundation

The foundation will need a really long and heavy barrel or a forend weight kit to balance correctly. The adjustments are limited compared to the ACC. That said, I love my stock. My wife has an ACC and weight up front is a necessity. It also feels like a tuning fork when you pull the...

Interesting rimfire cleaning theory and method

I'll jump in here for the sake of shits and giggles. My experience shooting rimfire is killing stuff and shooting prs type rimfire matches. I also utilize the rimx as a trainer as I have a 450 yard range out my back door. It is long enough to be long range with the .22 but not long enough to...

    Xtriii or ?

How about a post match photo? The photo with the trophy is from the rimfire match the day before. Then one with her and the scope in question. Some guys walk around behaving like Charlie Brown and the mother fuckers think they can one-up David Goggins. (This is all in jest. If you have thin...
