Lightweight vs Heavy/PRS Rifle Set-up for Mammoth?

I've done Mammoth twice and plan to sign up for the next one in 2023. I reverse engineer the whole thing and start with a total max weight I'm willing to haul around. I'm not a 20 something year old stud, and I'm not kidding myself about that. My goal for the 2023 competition is 45# absolute...

Good / Reliable 6.5 for PRS matches?

I can't really argue against anything you guys have said. The only gas gun I saw at mammoth last year had mechanical problems. My partner and I both ran 223 gas guns because we were thinking the ranges would similar to those from when we did the 2020 mammoth at that base where half the stages...

Good / Reliable 6.5 for PRS matches?

When I'm saying the semi auto's seem like lighter rifles, I'm saying relative to the 6.5cm I have now which with scope and bipod is around 17# which all things considered isn't that bad for a precision bolt gun. A lot of the PRS type bolt guns start around 15# before scope and bipod. The sig...

Good / Reliable 6.5 for PRS matches?

LMT has been on my crush list for a long time. I didn't see a weight on their spec sheet though for their 6.5cm

Good / Reliable 6.5 for PRS matches?

I'm looking ahead at the 2023 Mammoth, and this year I have a new partner who's going to run a 308. That said, I'm going to run a 6.5cm. The 6.5cm I have I love it dearly, but all in weighs around 17#. I've been kicking around the idea of a semi auto 6.5cm because generally they seem to be a...

    300 blackout bolt gun

I already have an encore and was looking for one of the 300 BO barrels for it but never found one, otherwise I'd have gone that route. A single shot shouldn't be overlooked.

    300 blackout bolt gun

I've looked into this in the past as well as I'd like to plink off my back patio without the blast and noise upsetting the neighbors. I completely get that the 300 BO was made for the AR platform, but you're not going to get anymore quiet than a bolt gun with no moving parts especially for the...

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

So I've got my CTR in front of me. I've got all the screws loosened up, and the scope base seems to be glued on. I actually got out the manual for the first time in my life and it says to have it removed by a gunsmith. Blah, how do I pop the factory one off so I can put the Area 419 20 MOA on.

Well, I ordered the one from Area 419. I think I should be good? Maybe? LOL, It's really weird for me to get my first Tikka when I'm so used to Remington, Ruger, or Savage guns over the year. This learning curve will be good for me.

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

I've always liked keeping materials about the same if possible. Steel receiver, steel base, steel rings and done. Maybe I'm old school on that and by looking at what's available out there for the T3X rifles apparently I am, lol. You lost me on the recoil lug and scope base.

This appears to be the only steel 20MOA base out there that I'm aware of for the Tikka T3x short action. Thoughts? https://www.brownells.com/optics-mounting/rings-mounts-amp-bases/rifle-bases/tikka-t3-t3x-20-moa-1-piece-base-sku526000461-38623-182104.aspx

I actually worked the action on a cross in 6.5 today over lunch. I like the rifle for all the reasons you mentioned. I'd love to go hunting or do a mammoth with a rifle that light that folds up so well, but the action I worked today was rough and nasty. Youtuber "backfire" has posted a couple...

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

All, Thank you for putting up with all my questions and being patient. I had given up on the daniel defense as the deals I was looking at went away. I bought a CTR in 308, and when it arrives I'll give it a good home. So long as the thing shoots well, I'll be happy. For now, I'm just going...

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

I just have a mental hang up about any gun that takes a magazine thinking I should have plenty of them and they should all be loaded. The shorter length of the tikka mags is a plus in my book though.

    cheapest gong hanger

I was turned on to these by an instructor and I've been very pleased so far. T-posts are cheap and easy to put in or take out. The pricing on the targets makes me think they're not really AR500 or somehow got some cheaper grade of it. Personally, I've switched over to all 1/2" plates and even...

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

I could care less on the looks. Most rifles I love and commit to I end up giving a krylon rattle can paint job to. My guns don't get treated like range queens at all. I guarantee it'll see rain and snow, and likely get banged around on barricades at matches. Looking for a spare magazine...

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

Forgive the rookie questions on tikka, but is there much difference between their regular model vs their stainless model? Looks aside is one going to be any better than the other? I shoot in the rain and snow, so the stainless has an appeal to me, but if the other style "might" shoot better...

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

I have had a hard time finding a CTR in 308 in stock anywhere, but I just need to find one.

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

Well... good news and bad news. Good news is that my wife and I had a really great talk about family finances and goals for the year. Bad news is that my budget for this project just got cut to $1,000 or less. I've got the scope and rings sitting on the bench so the last thing needed is the...

    I need a recommendation for a better 308.

I've seen a bergara pro shoot incredibly well and honestly I can't imagine a Tikka CTR being much better or worse either way. It's really more about just buying something out of the box and not have to mess around buying one gun, and then swapping the stock.
