Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards

Re: Muzzle velocity for 175 grain....1000 yards anyone pushing some 175's faster than that with a 30"+ barrel? I am looking to build a rifle that will get 2900+ out of a 308 with 175's. Barrel length is not a problem for me and in fact 33" is what I was thinking.

    338 lapua dies?

Re: 338 lapua dies? I wouldn't say that RCBS is crap now. I would say that Redding is just a step up in some of their products and you will end up paying for that. I would get a Redding type S FL size die and a Redding Comp seating die.

    Full Length Sizing Questions

Re: Full Length Sizing Questions All chambers are different. I like to use an rcbs precision mic to set my headspace when FL sizing. I do not usually set up brass just for one gun because I am running several 308's but I usually size for .002 bump under my fired cases. The shoulder will...

    Brass Question

Re: Brass Question as stated it is high pressures. The brass is flowing into the ejector port on your bolt face. what bullet? how much powder? I would not suggest shooting or hunting with any others that you have loaded up.

    Slow Barrel?

Re: Slow Barrel? How many rounds are on the rifle? As stated if you are jumping the bullet into the rifling because of a long cut or worn throat you velocity will go down. Also if you are seating the bullets out far the reach closer to the rifling there will be a decrease in pressure will not...

    Custom Sizing Dies

Re: Custom Sizing Dies I am curious to your reasons for wanting a custom sizing die? Honestly the only reason I would go custom is if it is a wildcat cartridge that dies are not usually available for. If you truly want a die mated to your rifle chamber you would need it to be cut with the...

    Lot Variation WTF?

Re: Lot Variation WTF? What is your average difference in velocity from the last lot to this one? I have seen velocities go up or down by 50-60 fps easy between lots of powder. You will most likely just need to tune your load to this lot of powder but their are other variables that could...

    Tumbling & Prep

Re: Tumbling & Prep I would agree with Temp9 to use a uniformer like these from sinclair. http://www.brownells.com/reloading/case-...4720-63188.aspx You can chuck them in a drill and go to town, works very well.

    MePlating

Re: MePlating Sounds like you are getting the answers that you were looking for. I have uniformed and pointed before for 600yard matches but I did not notice a huge difference. It is a lot of work, like someone else said shooting more will probably be more beneficial.
