500 yard or 600 yard ranges in Northwest Alabama?

The only public ranges I know of in N. AL are Cullman, and Scottsboro, both those are a little more east. You might want to try over in TN, our options here in AL are a bit limited as far as public ranges.

Best Lapua brass to turn into 6.5 Creedmoor?

Thanks! This is exactly the relevant response I was looking for! Yes, buying the brass is easy since it's readily available now, but the nerd/engineer in me wants to make it anyway. I have lots of .308 brass, and the range is always full of it, so practice brass is cheap. I have a lot of LC...

Rifle Scopes Zeroed for the first time - Problems

Read the manual, it will tell you what your click values are. Might be helpful to use grid lined paper as well so you know how much to adjust. Start in close, get on paper, then move to 100 or where ever you want your zero.

    Protective booties for bipod feet?

Just relax and enjoy it, man. To the OP: Have all your guns Cerakoted in a Hello Kitty theme. Wait, the Team Hello Kitty guys on the Hide might be offended by that.

Gunsmithing Can an 80% lower be modified to take an ambi bolt release?

I'm seeing a lot of 80% and blemished lowers for sale lately, but I want my next AR15 build to have an ambi-bolt release. So my question is: Can an 80% lower be modified to take an ambidextrous bolt release? And if so, does anyone have the design specs for the modification? Let's assume I...

I'd like to introduce you to... Dr. Krieger!

As it was explained to me: (paraphrasing the conversation here) "A newly chambered barrel will have some rough edges in the throat that will tear off some of the copper jacket from the bullet. The copper flecks heat up and go down the barrel in a hot gas cloud and leave copper deposits along the...

    Spotting Scopes with Reticles

I have a Mark 4 spotter that's served me well for the past year since I've been using it. Mine is a little odd, with a P4 reticle instead of just the mil-dot or TMR. I think it's a little busy for just spotting for friends at the range. It would probably be more useful if I was ranging...

Gunsmithing anyone installed ptg bottom metal?

They're great products. You can download the print and hack out your stock yourself, but if you're lacking experience in this sort of thing, you'd be better served paying someone to inlet the stock for you.

Bolt grease... Mobil 1, Mobil 28, other stuff?

Why the yuck? It seems to be good enough for Geissele to use. I assume that means it has some merit, especially since an AR trigger is doing a lot more movement than the lugs on a bolt rifle.

    Check Amazon.com, they have it.

Bolt grease... Mobil 1, Mobil 28, other stuff?

I've been doing some reading, and I'm confused as to what grease would be appropriate, or best for use on a bolt. Grease specifically, rather than oil. From what I've seen, the bolt lugs, and cocking ramp on a bolt require actual grease, as opposed to just a liquid oil. I have some Mobil...

    Picked up 700 aac-sd

I had one, and it worked out well for me. Put it in a McMillan A5, Bushnell G2DMR on top. My brother had never shot a rifle before, and the AAC-SD in his hands held nice tight groups at 100 yards with M118LR. Had I not acquired a Mega MATEN in .308, I would have kept the AAC-SD as is, but...

    Gunsmithing Precision Rifle Cleaning

I've seen 8541 Tactical's video on this, but he didn't go into cleaning out the chamber. For my ARs in standard calibers (.223, .308), I use a chamber brush and wipe out with a chamber mop, but I don't want to go scrubbing in my bolt gun's chamber like that. I figured I'd just hose it with brake...

I'd like to introduce you to... Dr. Krieger!

I've done a fair bit of finagling, weaseling, and shenanigan-ing over the course of this year to get this rifle together. And waiting, there was a lot of waiting. Hopefully it was worth the wait, I have high hopes for this rifle. All the work was done by a member of my local gun club, he...

    Gunsmithing Precision Rifle Cleaning

Came across this thread as I was looking for tips on cleaning my newly arrived rifle. What's best for wiping out the chamber on a precision rifle?

    precision rifles... show em

Just brought this baby home yesterday. My Remington 700 AAC-SD, trued, PTG bolt fitted, Krieger fluted barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor, NF 20 MOA rail with a Bushnell ERS in FDE, all sitting in an XLR stock. Still has the stock trigger in it, but it's been tuned as well as it can be until I can upgrade...

New Caldwell Chrono plugs into iOS devices, wind meter attachment for phone

Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph This looks interesting. I like the capability to use my iPhone as a remote viewer, specifically since I have an old beat up iPhone that I use as a ballistic calculator and whatnot. There's even a wind meter attachment releasing soon that you can plug...

    Precision lr-308/ar10 help

When thermofitting, wouldn't the handguards on a monolithic upper act as a huge heat sink, causing the system to require a lot more heat? Especially since aluminum is an excellent conductor.

    Bruno's shipping Ripoff!

Midway adds a processing fee to small orders because they can't make enough margin for it to be worth their time, but they leave you the option to order it anyway at an increased cost if you really need it. It's not a great option for the consumer, but it's an acceptable business practice...
