Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

This is with a brand new barrel. First shot is 22.0 and following +0.2 grain. So 2nd 3rd and 4th are 22.2, 22.4 22.6 grains.

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

Finally, got around to shooting some of my first loads. Did a ladder test with 8208 xbr 22.0 to 23.4. I did 4 8 shot strings while seasoning the new barrel. Last string all shots were under 1moa at 100 yards. I'll post pictures up later. I'm happy though. Is 2650-2700 FPS ok or do I need to...

    Range Report Boat-tail backward ballistics

Thank you for the Input. So they are more stable ( not to key hole and goes where you want them, but range is suffered due to aerodynamic being bad?) What are SSS loads? Using tapatalk

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

I got a rcbs SB FL, I don't know if you remember the pm I sent you Mark about the brass failing go/no go. With the ram all the way up screw the die down until it touches shell plate then lower ram and turn 1/8 addition turn in and lock it down. I use lanolin and 99% alcohol as lube in spray...

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

Inconsistent COAL because of case length? I'm not using a bullet comparator. I use calipers from tip to base of brass. I've since learn you can not measure a OTM this way. I have a comparator coming today Where can I get some of these bushing? Using tapatalk

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

Thanks! Is it good measure to get a case length is in the middle (say brass ranges from 1.740-1.760, so I would use 1.750) to use as the crimp? What I'm thinking is if I set the die up for a brass that is 1.740 and while reloading I use a 1.760 brass, that crimp will be too much. I place a...

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

No matter what charge I have from 22.0-23.4 grains I'm getting a variation of COAL from 2.240-2.261

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

The reason I kept my COAL to 2.260 was to take in account the rise in powder. I did measure some factory ammo and they are not open tipped but they measured considerably shorter (55 grain is why and so that it chambers in 99% of rifles)

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

    1) only used the RCBS, going to load some more tonight using the Lyman 2) Did not, was told I did not need to since it's boat tail 3) Yes, run the ram up until pressure it felt and add alittle more until the press cams over 4) I did not, at first I had too much crimp but I cure that by...

Inconsistent COAL because of case length?

I loaded my first 32 rounds last night of Winchester Primer, 77 SMK, 8208XBR. Trying to load match ammo for my 18inch AR15 Powder is ranging from 22.0 to 23.4 (ladder test cartridge). This is my first time loading rifle and I was told case length did not matter for COAL just as long the...

    Range Report Boat-tail backward ballistics

Can someone please tell me why you would want to fire a bullet backwards? I've never head of this, just trying to gain some knowledge.

Budget trimmer and how much crimp is consider "light"?

Loaded 6 rounds. Fire one round only in the mag to see if the bolt would lock back and it did. Loaded 5 rounds and fired in rapid succession and everything function perfectly. The Lyman powder disperser works great! Using tapatalk

Budget trimmer and how much crimp is consider "light"?

I'm slowly getting in to the precision aspect of shooting and reloading. I use to reload straight wall on Dillon 650 but rifle is a different animal to me. I need a budget trimmer that could hopefully trim/debur/chamfer. I was looking at the lyman trimmer and maybe RCBS Trimmate or...

Use to load pistol, new to rifle. Have to use a full size die?

Thanks guys. 'm finally back to reloading and started to process brass this past weekend (decapping and tumbling). I now need a good case trimmer that I can hook up to a drill, being able to take the crimp out of the military brass would be a plus too. Load wise SMK .77 HPBT I order. Now...

Needa new spotting scope and Maybe a range finder

It's addicting.. I know 600 is not "Far" but for me is it since most I ever shot was 200. I got hooked this past weekend, so much fun. I'm just to carbine style classes (fast and loud) and since I have a range at my house (out to 200yd). The nearest range is a hour and half that is over 300 but...

Use to load pistol, new to rifle. Have to use a full size die?

With my brass and range pick up I would need to run all of it through a Full length size and not just bump the shoulder back. This is to make sure all the brass are relevantly the same size, correct? I would only shoulder bump if I knew that case was fired out of the rifle I was reloading...

Use to load pistol, new to rifle. Have to use a full size die?

I use to reload on a Dillon 650 but only did pistol calibers. Mostly 9 and 45acp. I sold off my press and few other things when I wanted to get my insulin pump. I'm loading pinking and match ammo for my 18inch Ar Anyway I have a ton of .223/5.56 brass so I bought a Lee single stage (going...

Needa new spotting scope and Maybe a range finder

I notice the image in my el-cheap-o spotting scope had turn CC about 15 degrees for whatever reason. I have not dropped it but I'm using it as a excuse to get a better one. It was 65 bucks from Cabelas when they were doing some special about 2-3 years ago. Any way budget is 300-400 mostly...
