Rifle Scopes Who's really making what for who!?

Ok.. both March and Nightforce come from Light Optics Works. You wouldn't consider them both to be of high quality? Maybe that isn't the norm but a fine example. They are very different in construction but still very high quality products.

Rifle Scopes Who's really making what for who!?

Correct, like I commented on Leupold and their lenses. Yes, I am sure I could go to say Optronika and say I want to turn out a $100 optic and they would take the cheapest components from the lowest bidder and make it. In general if a company is well known for making a very high quality product...

Rifle Scopes Who's really making what for who!?

I think the "made in _____" stereotype stigma comes from past track records. The Chinese are well known for turning out a HUGE volume of a product but a little lacking in QC and overall quality. Can the Chinese turn out a quality product? YES they can! But volume = $$. After WWII the Japanese...

Rifle Scopes Who's really making what for who!?

Oh I don't disagree or see a problem with it either, the problem comes in with the consumer trying to sort the wheat from the chaff. What am I actually buying and where is it coming from says a lot to the overall quality of the end product. Example: If you bought a <+-> $2000 Nightforce scope...

Rifle Scopes Who's really making what for who!?

Years ago names like Burris, Bushnell, Tasco got a rep for putting out junk, probably true cause they didn't have the higher end stuff back then. The competition wasn't what it is now either. Many companies had to really step up their game just to keep up. I told my old man the other day I was...

Rifle Scopes Who's really making what for who!?

That's the beauty of what these companies are doing! They hold the name and these large contractors make the product for them to market. I could go to them and say "I want to bring a new optic to market" call it the diggitybombshizt-riflescope, tell them the specs and let them make it for me to...

Rifle Scopes Who's really making what for who!?

After doing a close bit of eyeballing on the optics market "looking for my next scope" I have found some interesting things and wanted to see if others could fill in some more info on this. So let's say a company like Bushnell, SWFA, March, Nightforce (all L.O.W) want to bring a new optical...

    OMG, my primers!

It looks like the primer flowed back into an oversized firing pin hole

Rifle Scopes Minox finally gets into the game

Looking at the design it's quite indicative of Optronica especially the ocular area and diopter adjustment ring. Looks almost identical to the Premier diopter ring.

Rifle Scopes Minox finally gets into the game

You can have the highest quality optical glass in whatever instrument, but if the lenses aren't ground to micron tolerances and the coatings aren't applied in proper thickness and sequence you might as well have a $35 Tasco

    Using non lethal shot?

Don't forget the most important phrase and repeat it over and over. "I felt my life was in danger"

Rifle Scopes Scope market inside scoop...

It would be really hard to forecast a cost per unit until they are ready to go into production. I know for sure developing the tech and tooling for ceramic lenses is gonna be a feat in and of itself, and won't be cheap. Ti material and tooling will also add a significant cost increase.

Rifle Scopes Scope market inside scoop...

I really don't understand the thinking behind having bulletproof lenses unless you plan on being shot thru the scope countersniper style. pun intended. Lenses don't need to be hard as diamond, I mean how often do we hear about broken objectives and oculars. I say use use ultra high quality MgFl...

    How heavy is too heavy???

Go with a Jewell the 3 springs allow you to set it at any pull weight. And don't even bother trying to sell the X-Mark, you can't give them away. If you are a bench rider go for a few oz. I have found that a light but crisp trigger pull gives that "surprise" you are looking for. Timney is ok...

    Rifle Scopes Factory Freaks

I just wonder how many scopes S&B and Hensoldt are actually gonna sell since the price of admission went to $7k on their new flagship models. They probably aren't gonna be flying off the shelves and they should have plenty of time for good QC

    Rifle Scopes Factory Freaks

That's the insanity of it all, and it's becoming more so with the cost of these damn things going thru the roof! The question I ask is why buy a $5k optic then?

    Rifle Scopes Factory Freaks

Tracking and holding zero almost goes without saying and of course the most important, that is what I would call a "basic function" The rest is just the cherries and cream on top and that is what I was referring to. The better the scope the more cherries and cream. There is a reason many of...

    Rifle Scopes Factory Freaks

A CA test is a really good way to judge how refined the optical train is on a given example. Put the scope on it's highest mag and in sunlight pick a bright white object with a dark background off in the distance. The whiter the object and darker the background the better. Look for purple/blue...

    308 Piston bolts any difference?

Ok now Jason I have a question. If I had a POF stripped upper&monolithic rail could I build that into a DI upper? GAP does this in their GAP-10 using a POF upper so how to they make the DI bolt carrier work if the POF BC is longer?

Frank you just made me remember boar hunting in Germany in the moonlight with my dad in a swaying hochsitz. He used a Kahles fixed 8x56 and you could make out even the finest details just by the moon. The Germans are/were the real pioneers, their old world glassgrinders really brought these...
