Just Ordered My First Long Range Rifle--A Savage 12 LRP!

I got one a month or so ago in 6.5 CM. It has the old style stock. I may replace it, but I only have 68 rounds through it and will reserve judgement on the stock for now. It shoots 140 gr AMAX's lights out. Going to the range tomorrow to give it another whirl. Ken Farrell makes a nice...

    6.5 Creedmoor

I have some R17 on order with Powder Valley. I might be within a week of it shipping. I will be working some up when I get it, but would be interested to see if anybody has tried it yet.

    6.5 Creedmoor

Demo man, Looks like those are working for you. Seems like the LRP's are pretty good to go out of the box. I would like to hear what you find with the hunting VLD's. I may need to try some of those as well. I shot 40 factory 120 AMAX's through my LRP before I had my reloading stuff in order...

    6.5 Creedmoor

Three shot groups at 100 yards, IMR 4350 & 140 gr Amax at 2.81 COAL, stock Savage LRP. I did not let the barrel cool while shooting these. I have 68 rounds through it now. Looks like I have two starting points.

    Loads for .260 /.243/ 6.5x47/6.5 Creedmoor

Damn. That's impressive. Was 2.2355" a jump? How much? Nice shooting.

    6.5 Creedmoor

I got the decimal in the wrong place. I said a jump of about .006". I meant about .060". I went and looked at the numbers and it is actually .055". This with 140 gr AMAX at 2.81" COAL

    6.5 Creedmoor

I also have the Whidden dies. I haven't yet resized a fired case as I just shot my first 48 hand loads this weekend. I got the non-bushing resizer. I may regret it or end up getting the bushing type. I will see how the resizing goes this week with the non-bushing die. I measured the base...

    6.5 Creedmoor

SkiGolfMike, Thanks for confirming you experience that as well. This is a factory Savage LRP. I didn't expect the chamber to be that tight. Do you bump back every firing or see if they will chamber before deciding? Did some load development with it with IMR4350 and 140 AMAX loaded to 2.81...

    6.5 Creedmoor

I measured my once fired Hornady brass and it looks like the shoulders either didn't move or only moved a half thousandth compared to unfired Hornady brass from the same box. Anyone else see this, or is my measuring suspect? I'm using a comparator gage to measure the shoulder with an...

    Check out this Yeti cooler

Canyon Coolers are great and less money than the Yeti. They are in AZ and cater the Grand Canyon river outfitters. Google them. Great cooler and great guys. You can get butterfly style latches on their coolers which are bulletproof. I'm not affiliated. I am a satisfied customer. I have...

    Two Savages, one XLR chassis...

We have the answer about the XLR chassis. Good to know. Closed top doesn't matter to me. Might to some. Just pointed it out since you asked about the differences between the two models. A lot of scope bases have recoil lugs on them. Because the action is closed on top, the lug has nothing...

    Two Savages, one XLR chassis...

I would call them and make sure the XLR can accommodate the bolt release on the trigger. Not sure it will. The LRP has the target action which is a heavy, closed top action. Not sure if the closed top matters to you or not. If you use it, you will need to use a scope base with no recoil...

So hard to find reliable electronic scales.

Chargemaster is $289.00 at Natchez currently and you can get free Speer bullets or a $50.00 rebate if you buy a total of $300.00 of RCBS stuff.
