Hyper Stabilized Bullets - Jim Boatright

Jim, For purposes of ELR, would solid bullets be of benefit for say 6.5 rounds? I am guessing they would be heavier and perhaps more stable???

I would agree with Lefty. I have a 6.5 and a 5.56 RPR. The 556 I use in Fl to shoot at shorter distances and the 6.5 I take with me when I visit my son in Co. This gives me the ability to shoot smaller at shorter and transfer that to the 6.5 when I get west. It works for me. I know this won't...

Light boots for 18 hour days .

You may want to try Birkenstock inserts. I have foot pain from walking and being on my feet all the time and they have worked for me. They provide really good support for your foot. The beauty of the inserts is you can change them from shoe to shoe.

True, The 6.5 rifle I have likes heavier rounds for longer distance. Same with my 5.56. Maybe a trend?? The 140 match rounds are nearly identical to the ELD rounds in performance up to 600 yards. Will be testing them both at longer range soon.

It is their hunting ammo. It shoots just as well as the 140 eld match for me

Mine likes the 143 ELD-X rounds. I don't reload either. :cautious:

I believe the 18008 is the gen 1 rifle. 18029 is the new version. One of the big differences between gen 1 & gen 2 is the shroud for the bolt. The Gen 1 is plastic and the gen 2 is aluminum.

I have one and the twist identified by Ruger is 1:7. To get good results with mine, I had to go with +70g rounds.

5.56 are around. As an FYI. mine doesn't like light ammo. I need to shoot 77g in it to get groups that will make me happy. See the posting around 1240 in this string for the info. Got some good help here solving the issue.

Hyper Stabilized Bullets - Jim Boatright

My apologies sir for the confusion. My poorly worded question is regarding your comments in the section "how is hyper-stability achieved?" In it you spoke of "lateral throw off errors and a little bit further down about aerodynamic jump angle. My question is regarding the CG and relation to spin...

Timney's website has some info on the adjustment if you go to their website and type in Ruger Precision Rifle. The adjustment is in the front (Muzzle) end of the trigger assembly. Looks like a hole about in the middle of the front of the mechanism and adjusts with an allen wrench.

Anarchyoutdoors carries a titanium shroud that has a milled firing pin key in the back of it. It doesn't have the allen key to adjust the trigger, but since I changed my trigger, I don't have to worry about it. In my humble opinion, I think it operates smoother than the aluminum shroud and...

Jim, It seems that CG and bore yaw would have to be related. If the CG is closer to the rotation center of the rifling as the bullet moves through the barrel, wouldn't it result in less yaw. Am I way off base with that assumption?

Just happy that I found something it likes. Guess there really is something to this ballistics stuff... :p And i'm glad it now shoots like the 6.5 at shorter ranges which is why I bought it.

All, Got a chance to shoot my 5.56 RPR today with the 77 G bullets. It is like night and day from the 55's. I could actually hit what I shot at. Thanks to everyone again for their advice. (y):)

Very cool paper. Based on it, would we not want to make sure that the center of the bullet/rifling contact is as close to the CG as possible to reduce any variances in the barrel when it is picking up the high rate of spin?

It might be that sales for it are not what they expected for the caliber. The 6.5 is a tack driver and on back order in many places from what I recall. I really like mine. From what I have read, the 6 is in the same category but there is a lot of people calling the 6.5 the new 308. That has to...

I am running Harris on my 6.5. It works great and is mounted on the swivel stud. Only issue I have with it is it has a tendency to loosen a little.
