What's an "assault weapon"? Never heard of one of those. I only own defense weapons...

    I need a hand on a 308 load

I don't know how much 4895 you have on hand, but try picking up a pound of imr 4064. It worked great in my remmy 700 in .308 and shot out to 1500 yards with the 175s. Know it's not what you were looking for but it may be worth a try for you

Gunsmithing Action trueing / blueprint question

That is true. I was just assuming the new bolt headspaced correctly.

    Gunsmithing AR 15 gas block

Not very hard to install one. Taking one off can be a different story sometimes...

Gunsmithing Action trueing / blueprint question

With a new bolt, you will want to lap the lugs and check headspace. No need to take it back to a smith, those things can be done at home with lapping compound and go/no go gauges

Is my scope too close to the base?

As long as a playing card will fit between them, you're good to go.

    Hornady GS1500 problems

With my digital scale I have to let it "warm up" for about 15 minutes and then I put close to max weight on it and take it off then out it back on about 10 times then calibrate. Right on the dot every time after doing this. Electronic scales are finicky sometimes

Sweet rig. Try locking the bolt back and let it sit for a few days to break in the spring before you go hacking away...

Gunsmithing Will this brake work on my rifle?

You could drill out a few flat washers and fit to match o/d of barrel and paint black to match to get you close, then use shims and a crush washer. Make sure the i/d of the washers are very close to the thread size to prevent boogering the threads

Flash Suppressor on a Stainless Steel Barrel?

Flash Suppressor on a Stainless Steel Barrel? A "very accurate AR" doesn't necessarily mean a ss barrel and "varmint" label makes them super accurate. Sometimes, but rarely. A super accurate ar may have lots of upgraded parts. But this is expensive. A good barrel, action, trigger, stock make...

Gunsmithing Want to build an AR10 and need help and lots of advice

Like Rancid Coolaid said, ar-10's are not at all like the 15's. The parts are scarce and expensive. Not many options are available. And I also agree with the above statements about the Dremel. To finish an 80% lower, you should at least have a drill press with correct tooling, a good vise and a...

    Gunsmithing Chatter on barrel threads

Just look at thunder valley precision's Facebook page. Tom posts a lot of pics of threads that have marks just like that, and he is a seriously good builder. And in case you don't know him, he does hold world records at 1000 yards with rifles he built

    Gunsmithing Case head separation

Case/ head separation is caused by a few problems, pressure, headspace, worn out brass. But I'm sure you already know that. As for removing the case from the chamber, I take a case of the same caliber, degrease it and the inside of the stuck case, and mix up a bit of jb weld and then tap the...

Gunsmithing AR 15 Barrel Nut Torque

If the barrel nut has not yet been mated to the threads on the upper, tighten to 30-35 foot pounds and then take completely off. Do this a few more times to properly mate the threads, you will be thankful you did this when you decide to take the barrel off later. After that, tighten the nut back...

    Ar build

Looking to build an ar-15 from the ground up. And I mean completely. I want to build the lower, upper, all of it. I have to knowledge on how to build one, but does anyone have a very detailed parts list? Another thing, I may go with 5.56/.223, but there are so many possibilities I may want to...

    .223/5.56 compressed loads

my loading manual states that the average 223 chamber pressure is 52,000 CUP. using the CUP>PSI conversion -17902+(1.516•CUP) comes out a little under 61,000 PSI. considering that most reloading manuals are very conservative, this leads me to believe that my load of 26 grains should not be...
