Savage 110 tactical. Talk me into or out of

I had one Savage... I wanted to get a "compact" .223 for my kids, and I could get an Axis for cheap. Definitely wasn't a bad rifle, it shot well, I just wasn't feeling the fit & finish, and the weird Savage idiosyncrasies like pulling the trigger to remove the bolt. I started reading up on them...

Rifle Scopes recommend a scope mount pic rail for a Tikka T3X Superlite?

Interesting. Maybe I need to email them. My simple brain tells me tapered-head screw going into matching taper-bored hole is going to center itself wherever they work out to, unless there's one that's drilled to draw it forward against the pin, amd the rest have some fore-aft slotting to them...

Rifle Scopes recommend a scope mount pic rail for a Tikka T3X Superlite?

My MT rail is great quality. The only maybe negative I can say is that while I like the idea of the recoil pin and it's one of the main reasons I picked it specifically, it's just an aluminum protrusion on my aluminum rail, and with the flathead screws in the holes it's not like you can really...

NEW - Atlas CAL (Cant and Loc) Bipod - PRE-ORDER (added 12.14)

I have to say, I had modified my Gen 1 with the wave spring kit and a teflon washer, and I was in the "this isn't bad" camp, I thought it had some range between flopping around and locked up. Or at least I could move it with enough drag to lock it down without inadvertently canting it. But I...

    Tikka T3 Thread

Nope, 6.5CM, basically same as yours- it's a medium Palma with the chamber area taken down to 1.20" to fit under the magnum Bugnut. Simplest solution would just be to have the "shoulder" pushed forward enough to headspace, which doesn't even need to be super true since nothing's riding on it...

    Tikka T3 Thread

Anyone had the chamfer taken off their receiver face and/or machined off the receiver side of a Bugholes magnum nut to match, that knows how much one would take off either/both or the resulting OD? (Yeah, I know it's not exactly an OD being it's a hexagon.) I need to take out >0.150" up to...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I just picked mine up from having my factory barrel removed yesterday. I tried a few things and very quickly discovered I wasn't going to get the factory tube off without damaging it, so I decided screw it, I'd try destructive removal techniques, and cut it off and ground wrench flats a couple...

Getting Back Into Precision Shooting – Rifle Purchase Advice Needed

I'm not going to say 6.5 is cheaper (it's just not) but adding "good" as a criteria levels the playing field from what I see- there's cheaper cheap 308 than 6.5CM, but when you get into match ammo they're damn close on cost. I bought a .308, thinking it'd be cheaper to shoot, easier to get off...

Should you keep the origonal boxes for your gear?

Also keep boxes for stuff I think I have a decent chance of reselling in the kinda near future. Any accessories and crap I'm not going to use stay in the box. Not that I think it'll be collectible, just because if there's a few of whatever item I'm selling, even if I just get the same $, which...

    Off the shelf bolt gun

I'd buy a Tikka CTR and save the other $800 to buy pretty much any chassis or stock I wanted (probably with money to spare), unless you just really like the TAC A1 chassis. I've never shot one, but I've handled one, and it just wasn't my speed. Not that it's bad, I just feel like I could do much...

New Guy confused on which Atlas Bipod to get

I have a 1st gen CAL on my LSS-XL, mounted with a Magpul cantilever rail. The rail comes out almost flush with the end of the forend, although it does raise the mounting point up (well, down, raises the rifle up) about 1/4". I tried a plain MLOK rail and it works fine, I just preferred having it...

Why no love for the Savage

? I bought my kids an Axis early last year to learn on... they're 7 and 9, I don't know how into they'd get (the answer is "fairly" apparently) and the price was right. Took it out a couple times, it shot OK, but was pretty damn rough. Heavy bolt lift, not smooth cycling, etc. Started looking...

Cold weather gloves that aern't huge?

https://www.mechanix.com/the-original-insulated-insulated-work-gloves These are surprisingly warm for how thin they are... no idea really why they call them insulated, they're more like windproof with a thin fleecy inside. Worst I can say for them is they're not waterproof, and the material is...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I'm very happy with my LSS-XL G2, but I put an MBA-3 on it. Nothing in particular against MDT, but I couldn't see spending almost 3x as much for either of their buttstocks. I'm sure they're both nice and very well made being aluminum instead of plastic, but I'd rather have 10 or 12 boxes of...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I did that last year... Cabela's price-matching BPS' black Friday price, stacked with the now-gone 10% military discount, then paid with ~15% of gift cards. I figured that made it about even to add a prefit barrel vs. buying a CTR. But that doesn't include 'smithing or buying gauges, and I got...

WARNING: Be careful, when you purchase from www.opticsplanet.com

Another vote that OP sounds like a bitch. You called, they offered to make the deal what it would have been with the coupon, why you whining? I'd be elated to get someone on the phone on the 1st try who was willing to and empowered to override what "the system" said you should pay. I ordered...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I got them working in my LSS without much trouble. Most of my trimming was to the shoulder, where the wall transitions to the feed lips, adding a chamfer. I did have to take off a bit of the feed lips, mostly where they're thickest, but doesn't seem to be any issue, at least not yet.

New guy looking for help on first rifle

I have a .308... and I'd buy a 6.5 if I had to do it again. Thought process was I wanted a .308 gas gun, and I'd "save" by sharing calibers, and a little bit that .308 is cheaper/more available than 6.5. Trouble is... unless you're going to compromise on OAL, you're not going to shoot the same...

    Best economical factory bolt rifle

I'd also say Tikka... but realize you're stuck with a pretty damn thin barrel unless you pony up most of your budget for a Varmint or CTR. I will say I'm not a great long range shot and have gotten several <MOA 5-shots @ 100 with my .308 Lite. It's not incapable of accuracy... you just have to...

Custom tikka vs. tikka t3x tac a1

Personally, I'd build my own (and I did) unless the Tac A1 is pretty much exactly what you want. Only upside to the Tac besides the chassis is the 2-stage trigger, which also has a 3 position safety so you can open the bolt on safe. Their chassis and stock don't do much for me personally, nor do...
