    8208xbr pressure signs with 308?

Looking back on this post it seems that the initial question concerned the cases and primer. With a load of 45.3 gn it looks like there is the beginning of some signs of pressure. Any of the signs that are seen mean the load is over the maximum pressure accepted for the round (with maybe the...

    8208xbr pressure signs with 308?

Was your measurement on fired or resized case? NOTE: The measurement in the above post were all FLS in the same die. Also the test was run to get approximate differences in different manufacturers cases, not to justify measuring weight to determine volume. Obviously weight and volume work...

    8208xbr pressure signs with 308?

HERE IS SOME DATA WE PULLED TOGETHER ON PRACTICAL RIFLERY FORUM A FEW YEARS BACK. THE DATA IS FOR FULL LENGTH SIZED 308 BRASS FROM SAME GUN.

Did you enter the correct COAL?

So much for the US being regulatorily constrained on new powder production.

Maybe, but sometimes you you need to slap some people with facts. If he is 15 it just might help.

    8208xbr pressure signs with 308?

GRT say 43.6 gn is max @2.800" COAL. The Hodgdon data for 8208 is in Winchester brass which has greater capacity than R-P. [EDIT] Probably on the order of a grain or more of powder.

So much for the US being regulatorily constrained on new powder production.

You have a gross misunderstanding of the issue. In the US and I am sure to some extent Australia the Environmental regulations are more stringent than in other parts of the world. In our case the emission limits for power plants, chemical plants, and refineries are more stringent than those in...

Poor IRL performance of the 68 grain .223 BTHP

It is a hollow point but it is not designed for expansion. The hollow point is there because the jacket is put on from the bullet base and formed to at the meplat(point). Hornady does not make HP hunting/varmint bullets. Their entire hunting line is based on using tipped bullets to initiate...

    5.56 Brass headspace variations

I am of the opinion that the best approach is to use a small base die for most AR's to avoid issues with the base sizing question/issue. It isn't a requirement but it helps especially if you are trying to keep the datum dimension close to the chamber headspace.

Poor IRL performance of the 68 grain .223 BTHP

It is a Match bullet, not a hunting/varmint bullet.

I have read that also in numerous places but I've never seen any data to support it.

    5.56 Brass headspace variations

When you fire your cases and measure the datum dimension it will likely always be shorter than the actual chamber dimension. This is due to springbuck. We can get into a discussion of how much and why but that is what happens. It is likely your chamber is slightly longer than 1.459". When...

    Hodgdon 4831 SC vs 4831

Didn't take issue just commenting on the difference. Now if I were to take issue it would concern the comment "and the exact ballistic copy of H4831". Considering most every batch of a given powder is somewhat different. Marketing. Of course ADI discontinued the H4831/ADI 2213 quite a while...

    Hodgdon 4831 SC vs 4831

Burn rate is controlled by both the grain size (specifically area) and chemical retardant. The smaller grain size should equate to a faster burn rate. So the maximum and minimum load data is the same meaning that it is safe to use. It may mean that the powders will behave the same which may or...

Which shot group would you use?

Let me pose a question (being a bit of a smartass). You like the SD of the 134 but the group is not to your liking. The 137 Group is to your liking but you don't like the SD. So what is your objective here? Do you want a SD that might be lower or a Group that might be smaller? Do of the...

    6.8 x 51mm / .277 Fury

I don't know about QL but I do use GRT and what would concern me about either is how well the powder models work going to 80KSI and also how the powers themselves behave. They may be fine but the issue is there is not much data available to qualify them. As for the round itself I would be...

    Powder IN-STOCK thread

In the world of corporate chaos Vista Outdoors put Federal, CCI, Remington Ammunition, into a division called Kinetic Group to be sold to CSG (the Czech group) and several months ago Vista Outdoor dropped and canceled all Alliant Powder Orders. This was done because Federal actually owns the...
