    Spray painting stainless steel

I'd like to paint my 700 5R that has a stainless barrel and action. I did a test run on one of my muzzleloaders which also has a stainless barrel and the Krylon flakes off the barrel without much effort. I have painted a number of parkerized and anodized rifles/parts over the years and it holds...

Remington 700 barrels with Savage style barrel nut

Good info, thank you. I am not a snob, I've owned two Savage 10's over the years and liked them just fine, except for the clunky action feel as you mention. I'm starting from scratch and looking to go with a 700 SPS Varmint in 243, but part of my decision process is the cost of a new barrel...

Remington 700 barrels with Savage style barrel nut

Hi guys, I'm looking for a barrel that can be swapped at home. I know Bergara makes one and have heard others make them as well. Can anyone provide other manufacturers who offer these? The specific barrel I'd be looking for is a 243 heavy or medium varmint contour. Thanks.

Caliber selection for 650yd steel matches

BWSA is exactly where I plan to shoot (I'm near Ann Arbor). I'm trying to find something that can work there, kill yotes out back, shoot to 7-800 up at MTC and not break the bank. I know playing the compromise game isn't recommended but it is required at the moment.

Caliber selection for 650yd steel matches

Thanks mnthntr. The quote I received from my dealer said the Predator Max has a 22" barrel, but Savage's website says 24." That gun has the accustock and would probably get me started. What is the process of swapping stocks down the road since the Predator has the proprietary Savage DBM? Would...

Caliber selection for 650yd steel matches

Thanks for the help guys, I'm getting closer to figuring out what I need to buy. I have a couple Savage specific questions and rather than start a new thread I thought I'd start here: - Is a 22" .243 barrel too short to be competitive to 650 yds? The Savage Predator Max rifle seems like a good...

Caliber selection for 650yd steel matches

Thanks. I am leaning toward the 243. What projectiles are you having good luck with out of the factory Savage barrels? I'd like to be able to shoot the 100gr+ stuff if I can but the factory barrel is 1-10.

Caliber selection for 650yd steel matches

Great info, thanks guys. Savage is what I know but if I can get similar results from a 700 (SPS maybe?) that isn't too big of a deal either. I'm hoping to build an MOA rifle and maybe a little better. My other 10's did that without much effort. Mnhntr- What do you mean by non issue? Are you...

Caliber selection for 650yd steel matches

Hi folks, After some time off, I've decided to get back into long range shooting over the winter and into 2014. I have previously owned two Savage 10's, one in 223 and one in 308 that were great shooters but I ended up selling off due to lack of time to shoot them. I have some time opening up...

HERE..get one of these,it'll make you shoot better

Re: HERE..get one of these,it'll make you shoot better I also read the article in Shotgun news and immediately came here to search the company name and see what SH had to say. Sure, the news article leaves a lot to be desired, but how do we know that isn't just shitty journalism? I'd be...

Advanced Marksmanship Help diagnosing these targets?

Re: Help diagnosing these targets? Thanks for the input, guys. The rifle is in a HS Precision stock and is freefloated. It was originally a 26" gun that was cut and crowned by Kampfield Customs. Target was at 100 yards. Shooting from a bench, off a Harris Bipod and a rolled up piece of...

Advanced Marksmanship Help diagnosing these targets?

(If this type of post isn't allowed and I missed it, my apologies). I got out today to shoot my new-to-me 700. Rifle details: 308 20" 1 in 12 Millet TRS-1 I am not extremely experienced with precision rifle shooting, but I have dabbled here and there. I had an old Savage in 223 I could shoot...

A quick review on AI's cleaning kit for AE and AW

Re: A quick review on AI's cleaning kit for AE and AW Somewhat on topic- What's the consensus on bore snakes for precision rifles? I use them on my 'fighting guns'(AR's, AK's and my Glocks), but was hesitant on my bolt gun. Some solvent and patches every couple hundred rounds seems to work...

Folding stock options for Rem 700?

Hey guys, I did some searching here and on the net and haven't come up with much. I'd like to get a folding stock for a 700 I have (308). I travel quite a bit and folding guns just makes things easier. So far I have only found the AICS and a few offerings from Choate, though I am having some...

    Savage gurus...advice needed

Re: Savage gurus...advice needed Thanks a million guys, good info here. The stock I'm looking at is 3.5lbs I think. I figure the factory stock probably weighs around 2lbs or so, leaving the barreled action at 4 and some change. Chopping the barrel should take a few ounces off, maybe I can...

    Savage gurus...advice needed

Re: Savage gurus...advice needed Thanks for the info guys, yes trying to keep this light and I want to stick with Savage, my version in 223 was an awesome rifle. The factory rifle weighs in at 6lbs and change with the stock, I was thinking that by chopping the barrel and putting it into a...

Just bought my first muzzle loader... Help?

Re: Just bought my first muzzle loader... Help? My CVA absolutely loves the 250gr Hornady SST's. That is solid advice there. I'm running 90gr of Pyrodex, 250gr SST, and Win W209 primers. It patterns 1" groups at 100 very consistently. I'm shooting the Wolf which is the cheapest inline they...

    Savage gurus...advice needed

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I have very limited long range rifle experience, but would like to build a new stick and learn more. I used to have a Savage 10fp in 223rem mounted in a Choate Sniper II stock (bought the whole package used). It was a heck of a shooter but I didn't use it much...
