    Triad Stock Pack

I agree. Loops on the outside if you have a BDL-style magazine that can be topped off (or if you need to single load). But loops on the inside if you use a detachable box magazine system, 'cause then those rounds are just a last-ditch backup for when you've lost all your mags.

    243 vs the 260 Rem

OK, now that you've settled on 6.5mm, you need to give just a little more thought to which 6.5mm. 260 has more case capacity, but 6.5 Creedmoor gives you more flexibility for seating long bullets. Optimum seating depth is an important consideration for long-range performance and consistency.

6SLR vs 260? or stop being a bitch and get both?

Yes, please! Throw out some red meat.

    Coriolis Compensator Prototype**UPDATED**

Watch out! That Spin D is strong stuff. It can easily overpower your Coriolis contraption. Especially if you don't have the right "attitude".

    Bipod height?

Terry Cross is a great guy, so I recommend genuine Pod-Loc. Anybody know where I can buy a couple? They're out of stock everywhere that I looked.

    Bipod height?

Oh, yeah. Be sure that you get a swivel head (Harris Type S or equivalent) and a Pod-Loc so that you can easily loosen it up and tighten it down.

    Bipod height?

I love my 6-9 because when I go prone I like to get down low and "become one with the Earth". But if there are any weeds, you'll need something taller. 9-13 is probably a good place to start.

Advice on building a 223 bolt action please

The bottom line is that whatever magazine system you use, you'll want the ability to load those heavy bullets to significantly longer COAL than the factory spec for 223.

Advice on building a 223 bolt action please

And here's a rough mock up of what the cartridge will look like when I load JLK 80's to minimum seating depth. (Compared to the same factory 75 gr round in the previous shot.)

Advice on building a 223 bolt action please

And here's a shot with a 75 gr factory round loaded to standard 223 length (2.25" max). You can see how much more room there is now.

Here's a shot of my mod to the BDL-type mag box.

Advice on building a 223 bolt action please

Not a problem. Too much twist is always better than too little. The #^%@$#$ factory barrel on my Varmint Synthetic is very accurate (easily 0.5 MOA), but it only has 1:12 twist and it can't even stabilize a 69 gr SMK. :(

Advice on building a 223 bolt action please

Well, good on ya mate! Long ago I spent 6 years in Canberra as a grad student a 'Strine Nashnul Youni. Got to spend two winters doing fieldwork in the northern Queensland bush. Oz was more tolerant of firearms back then. Since you've already got a more conventional 223, I'm gonna vote for 223...

To Muzzle Brake or NOT to muzzle brake.

When I'm shooting next to someone with a brake I can usually feel the slap. 300 RUM holds 100 gr of powder. There's a lot of high-pressure gas to spread around. I'm not sure what make the brake was. My smith picked it and installed it. I'll look around to see if I can find a picture.

Hewie, Where the heck do you live? If you don't say, then you're gonna get a lot of irrelevant and impractical advice. Hint: Fill in your profile.

How many rifles to you have with bipods attached?

Still using Harris Type "S" (swivel). Shorty BR model (6-9) unless the weeds are tall and i need to get up higher. I have a bunch of them in different sizes and flavors (they've been breeding in a dark closet), but mostly swap my favorite one between rifles as needed. It's the only one with a...

To Muzzle Brake or NOT to muzzle brake.

I'll put in a vote for "no brake". I had a 300 RUM with a brake*. After 225 rounds I had to sell it. The blast wave was like getting slapped in the face on every shot. Even with plugs AND muffs, it damaged my hearing. Now I have non-stop tinnitus. Had to give up competitive shooting because...
