Looking to re-chamber... Short Action Remington 700 - What to do?

Roughly how many yards would that be good for?

    Accurate Ordnance 6.5x47

5 shots = .053" Holy crap! Nice! Have you shot it past 100 yards? I'd be really interested to see how it does at 300, 500, etc.

Was told blue printing/truing isn't all that good?

I don't think it makes a "huge" difference, but when you're trying to get it as accurate as possible it's an area for improvement. I agree with your gunsmith, but who's going to put a factory barrel on a custom action? One thing I've noticed is that there's a big difference in what gunsmiths...

    Cleaning with break fluid?

If you're going to use brake parts cleaner, I'm pretty sure the non-chlorinated variety would be the best choice.

Anyone have any experience with pulled SMK'S

I bought some last year from a fellow member here. Most of them have pretty deep gouges. They shoot okay, but not as good as bullets without the gouges. (No big surprise.) I've had to pull .30 caliber bullets myself (reloading mistakes) and didn't do nearly as much damage to the bullets...

Gunsmithing Do new "custom" barrels have to be crowned by the gunsmith?

A lot of gunsmiths list on their websites one price for barrel chambering, and another (additional) cost for barrel crowning. If I'm reading correctly, the crowning cost isn't included in the chambering cost. (In other words, add the two costs together to get the cost to install the barrel.)

Gunsmithing Do new "custom" barrels have to be crowned by the gunsmith?

So add another $65 or so on top of the cost to thread/chamber. Thanks for the reply!

Gunsmithing Do new "custom" barrels have to be crowned by the gunsmith?

Newbie question: Does the gunsmith installing a custom barrel have to crown it, or is that done by the barrel maker? EDIT: Assuming the barrel isn't being shortened, threaded, etc..

Cut away view of my chamber on 6.5 Creedmoor 3000 rounds down the tube

Could the copper being in there somehow help accuracy? (To "smooth out" the bore.) I realize not having the cracks would be ideal, but it sounds like they're going to happen in a lot of calibers/barrels after just a few hundred rounds, if not sooner.

Cut away view of my chamber on 6.5 Creedmoor 3000 rounds down the tube

Anyone have an idea of how many rounds until a .308 barrel would be eroded that badly? Maybe 7,000 or 8,000?

Cut away view of my chamber on 6.5 Creedmoor 3000 rounds down the tube

Can that barrel be set back? (Cut off the milled part and re-chamber farther forward.)

    OP, Any update?

New press turned .5MOA gun into 2MOA gun?

Loosen the three (hex head) bolts at the top of the uprights (that connect the turret to the base), realign (properly align) the turret with the base, tighten the three bolts. Have you tried this?

Someone use that thing for a walking stick? :p

Gunsmithing How smooth should the bore be if it was hand lapped at the factory?

The manufacturer says it's fine; they've got nothing to hide. (Of course, if you'd rather not say, that's cool.)

What did I do wrong? (Case failure.)

Thanks again for the replies. I'm definitely going to look into the Hornady case length/head space gauge. I've never needed one before, but I think I definitely need one now.

What did I do wrong? (Case failure.)

Wow, I can clearly see the thin spot around the inside of the case by looking down into it with a flashlight.
