    6mm vs. 6.5

i have been thinking about going with the 6mm in the future but I think I am going to try loading some lighter 6.5 bullets like the 123 scenar to get some MV and go that route for a bit. I have been using the 140 ELD-M and 142SMK for a while and love it but I want to see if i can get a little...

Gunsmithing Feed issue - Bolt not picking up round

When I have the problem with my magpul AICS mags I can take them out and visually see that the case head is not all the way up against the feed lips of the magazine. It is like the follower is hanging up. It usually does it in the last couple rounds of the 10rnd magazine only.

    Hornady 4DOF App

4DOF only works with the bluetooth weathermeter. It can be a little finicky but seems to work well. It grabbed atmosphere from a place I have never shot before and was right on this weekend.

Gunsmithing Red Loctite for base screws?

I personally only use blue with such small fasteners. IF you make sure everything is good and clean you shouldn't have any problem. If you end up using red I would recommend using a heat gun to free them prior to trying to loosen them. even with blue lock-tight i have begun to twist the torx bit...

Gunsmithing Feed issue - Bolt not picking up round

My Magpul 10rnd did the same thing. I took it apart and cleaned it up and thought it was ok but during my club match this weekend it did the same thing. Looks like the follower isnt sliding up in the back as fast as the front causing the cartridge to sit a little too low. I have never had a...

Gunsmithing issues in bedding a choate stock?

Should be good. I bedded my choate stock and it is holding up great.

Gunsmithing ? regarding bedded stock for 2 different Remington actions

IMHO - If it shoots great and you think it has good contact with the recoil lug and along the action then you could probably leave it. some chassis only have thin lines of contact and firm up against the recoil lug. If I were a paid gunsmith I would not let it out of my shop that way and I...

    Mild steel 1/2" 500+yards?

1000yds with non magnum short action calibers seems to be no problem for 1/2" mild steel. We shot it with a 7mm STW at 1000 and it made a decent crater then we shot it with a .50 BMG at 1000 and it made a rather large crater but still did not go through. That is my experience. I wont use it...

    Gunsmithing Need new calipers

At work I use Mitutoyo digital calipers and Starrett dial calipers (same ones mentioned by Clark). They are excellent quality and I can trust that they read right every time. I also bought a set of iGaging digital calipers for use at home on the reloading bench and to be honest they are the...

Gunsmithing Timing a barrel - how much does it matter?

Question to you guys with the TBAS - how do you put barrels and actions in it without marring the finish? And, how do you install barrels with taper? These are the only things holding me up from buying one....

    Gunsmithing Barrel Vise

I have a viper barrel vise and it works great. I have done several stubborn Tikka barrels and some remington 700 factory barrels and prefits with it and it holds up great no marring (i do use a business card). As far as an action wrench goes I bought the system from Northland Shooters Supply...
