A NOOB re-loader wants to avoid damaging a bolt action rifle

Don't rely on one source of loading data; check several for a "sanity check". Personally, I like loaddata.com- it's inexpensive, and you get so see a variety of results from various contributors. I have found errors in reloading manuals; don't ask me how I found them, but I can confirm I still...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Well, if ya only shoot at 1k, it makes sense to test at 1k. I test load development at 100, and if everything looks good, then I move on to longer ranges to true MV, get my dope, and see if anything falls apart (besides me). 1K? Ain't nobody got time for that......

    Bore sighting

Me? Usually rocking a little hot pink lacey number with a plunging bodice and thong undies, 6" spikes. You REALLY want a picture of that? :)

    Bore sighting

I don't know- I'm still back on "Another sniper and I " apparently with no knowledge of ballistics. Or, did they eliminate that from qualification?

    What is standard deviation?

The important thing to keep in mind is, that the standard deviation is just part of the equation; Since it's an expression of the variance you can expect from round to round, it does NOT mean that you can expect every shot to be within +/- 1 standard deviation. Std Dev is used to calculate the...

No fool like an old fool

It's a bitch gettin' old, no doubt. My club started a benchrest silhouette competition for us greybeards, but some youngsters come out & play, too. NRA Chickens at 500M, 20 rounds, two benches. Did fairly well for a one eyed fat man ;)

    reloading questions and tips

Good start on equipment, until you know if you enjoy it or not. What's your rifle shoot for group sizes? If they're pretty tight, but you want tighter, than the extra goodies may get you that incremental improvement, but after your shooting form, powder & bullet selection are the critical...

How much magnification for 1000 yds?

Beahan's Maxim- there are many ways to skin a cat, but if step one isn't 'kill the cat', the resulting steps will be largely unproductive and wholly unsatisfying..

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Heard this past weekend at Cabela's- character behind the counter 'Kimber's quality has gone down since Taurus bought them'. Twice as funny because 1) Taurus didn't buy them, and 2) Kimber's quality ALWAYS sucked....

    Cataract Surgery Stupid Question

definitely an important tip for anyone having cataract surgery AND having a pre-op extreme nearsightedness- you are at a higher risk for retinal tears, or complete detachment. When you are VERY nearsighted, your eyeballs are too long; this puts additional stress on the retina as the vitreous...

    Cataract Surgery Stupid Question

I was just a couple years younger when I had my surgery; it was life changing! Both of mine went, and had the surgeries a couple of weeks apart. I have the standard single, fixed focal length, and the are set for perfect distance, but I had to get reading glasses for up close. I quickly learned...
