AI AW vs 700 style actions ...which fails more?

I'm not buying the price point argument. Shooters can spend $3500+ on a trued 700 that is arguably no more robust than it was in factory form. Some of the custom 700 style rifles are very close in price to the AW / AX rifles.

First Look, the Accuracy International AX338MC

Probably not many "operators" doing a 20k stalk with their rifle disassembled. How long is your target of opportunity going to wait around for you to reassemble the rifle and get a shot off?

AI AW vs 700 style actions ...which fails more?

Sure, all of the actions can fail but this thread is titled which one fails more. There's substantial evidence of the 700 style actions failing and minimal evidence of the AI's failing. This causes me to wonder if AI owners hide their failures or simply don't experience them very often? Perhaps...

AI AW vs 700 style actions ...which fails more?

Since this thread resurfaced I'd like to ask a few questions of AI owners. Anyone have an AI fail that's not ammo related? Maybe someone dropped their AI and the bolt handle broke off? Surely someone has ripped the bolt handle right off their AI because they ran it too hard? Anyone not able to...

    Catastrophic Failure

I'd approach GAP, if they're willing to diagnose your rifle it would be difficult to find a more qualified or respected shop.

First Look, the Accuracy International AX338MC

Just reflected with my magic 8-ball, it told me everything will be ok. Seriously, AI has been building world class rifles for quite some time. The elements you're concerned with might have been proven by engineers, software, r&d, or during the PSR competition.

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

Can't speak to the m24 but I've certainly never heard a team guy bitch about his Mk13 built on the decorated 700 <--- that's sarcasm by the way. They fail frequently enough they're being phased out and the custom 700 based replacement isn't blowing anyones skirt up. Most would love to carry an...

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

I don't understand your comment. The OP specifically asked about AI vs. custom which sparked the reliability debate. If you happen to shoot factory rifles and don't require advanced features, good on you but that's not what the conversation is about.

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

It sure appears this thread has experienced a shift from customs are equally reliable to saying AI is more reliable but only under the most extreme conditions. On another note; I'd love to see a documented showdown between any AI model and the various customs. If someone in the Twin Cities area...

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

If your rig goes down in a SHTF scenario you're probably SOL as scavenging parts is unrealistic especially if you need a bolt as mentioned above. If my only option was a 700 or a 700 clone in a SHTF scenario I'd be happy as hell but if I can pick between those and any AI, the AI gets the nod.

AI AE Mk III with AICS Stock?

When I inquired late last year this didn't seem to be an option. Maybe things have changed now that the AE has been axed.

AI AE Mk III with AICS Stock?

Won't work but AINA will convert your chassis; it costs $1500. You could buy the AICS and cut / weld the folder rear section to your AE chassis. Weld the fixed section back on the AICS and sell it. I believe AI welded the chassis sections in the past. Structurally it would be fine.

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

Smiths are one variable and you're right, a good one will certainly impact the finished product. Who's debating that? Let's be honest, we're debating actions here; Not barrels; Not stocks; Not smiths; Not accuracy. AI makes a purpose built action and trigger that thrives in hard use...

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

I doubt you'll see many of the "top" tactical match shooters running AI's until they make a lightweight variant and sponsor a team. What is a hobby shooter? In my mind you're a hobby shooter unless you're a military sniper, law enforcement sniper, or earn your living entirely from shooting...

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

Again, there are some great custom rifles and quality smiths. I'll concede customs give up nothing to AI in the accuracy department and in many cases offer better fit and finish. I'm confident the AI will still be functional when the custom gives up the ghost.

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

Is your X-ray a worked over 700 or built on a custom action?

Accuracy International Vs Custom for 6.5 Creedmoor

Is this even debatable? There's some good customs and quality smiths but AI's just get it done. Bottom line, if the lights go out, aliens invade, or zombies attack; I'm grabbing the AI over any custom or worked over factory action.

Need a new pair of boots.

For all the Danner fans, how many have tried some of the Euro brands? I love my Danner super rainforest boots for everyday wear however, I only wear Lowa Tibet's in the field.

    New Value for Old AX

I'm certainly not happy about the re-sale hit my AI's have taken in the last month or so but understand it happens. Bottom line, I didn't buy them as an investment and it's not like they turned in to a flaming pile of shit overnight. Old school AI's are still bad ass rifles that get the job...
