Billet vs forged, and help me decide on a lower

Sounds like you've already found that either will do. I've spent too much money over the years on both. I now have one AR, the coyote rifle, and it's a JP. Wish I got it decades ago.

Tale of two Stocks: Manners EH1 and JAE-700

That stock needs a BAT Tactical Action, Krieger and a Nightforce like Obama needs help with his approval rating.

Tale of two Stocks: Manners EH1 and JAE-700

Thanks WJM308. Enjoyable write-up and nice job on the high quality photos. I've often wondered how feasible the JAE stock is with any rifle that will be carried. Perhaps the M1A is a great application for it, or perhaps the worst...I'm indecisive on the issue. I'd love to hear from some more...

Length of Pull How important is it. Mine is 15 7/8" and I cannot find a stock

Rescue6, I don't have quite that length of pull, but I understand your position. I have longer arms that puts my LOP at 15.25. The last MCM that I ordered maxed out at 15 1/8. If you order stocks, make sure they screw instead of glue so you can add your own spacers with ease.

Opinion on Using a BAT Action in a Tactical Rifle

ShadyDiesel, Do you have any information on "Bat Tactical"? Are they completely made by BAT but only sold by Jamie? Or perhaps Jamie makes some adjustments to Bruce's action with the permission of Bruce to advertise as BAT Tactical?

Bolt gun build, how to start?

knosaj, I am currently in "assembly stage" of what you are talking about. The negatives...as seen above...it can take some time to assemble on a budget. In my case, 2.5 years for this particular rifle. On the other hand...the positives... Shop deals on every part, no rush. Find quality used...

Opinion on Using a BAT Action in a Tactical Rifle

Let me know your thoughts on "Bat Tactical", I'm interested to see if they hold up to Bruce's expectations. Bat wait times are 6-8 months depending on luck. As noted above, Bruno's has them in stock at least once a month (+$100-150 premium).

Bolt Action Rifles: So behind the times, here is what I want...

Perhaps Tubbs 2000 is what you fancy? I would have to argue "R700 is currently still King..." is not accurate. More like president, voted in by popular demand. Could be great, could need a lot of work.

Opinion on Using a BAT Action in a Tactical Rifle

Pathfinder, If this is still a question next year, I will chime in with my experiences. I use BAT exclusively in benchrest, and couldn't be happier. To be fair, I haven't owned Pandas, Farleys, etc although have shot them plenty. With that being said, for my next hunting rifle I started with...

    Wilson Seating Die

You're on target with the stainless Wilson. I prefer one with micrometer, although varying opinions above. Some will argue the Wilson is slowly than more common set-ups, but it is accurate, and truly a joy to use. You might try a combo press, I believe it makes better use of bench space.

    Gunsmithing A new deer rifle.

For what you are looking for, consider a 280 Ackley. Stocks: whatever your McMillan preference I agree with the above statements: don't get too stuck on barrel brands. Consider timelines from krieger, bartlein, and Lilja. Lilja is running about 3 months right now; not bad. You're going to want...
