Gunsmithing ruger m77 action for a build ?

Go ahead and build it. Every factory action needs some kinda help. Just look at the list of things that everyone says you have to do to a Remington action. Same things can be done to a ruger. Most people here are more familiar with Remington based actions and change is always difficult. I bought...

Has anyone tried the Midway USA Sniper's Drag Bag?

It's all about the quest for a perfect bag. Like women and their purses, we're guys and and our gun bags. The drag bag is a great deal. Will I be dragging it on the ground? He'll no, neither will 98% of the people who buy them. They are a great deal on a heavy duty padded bag with lots of...

Gunsmithing what would cause primer hits like this?

You have a clear overpressure issue. Your firing pin dent is blowing back out into your firing pin hole. These are not cratered pockets with a loose pin hole, it's over pressure. You don't always have to have flattened primers etc to display pressure. I'm trying to reattach a marked up picture...

All this talk of speed is making me want a hot rod too!

    savage target action

Plus one on the Stevens. If you find a shop with a couple, make sure you cycle the bolts on each one before buying. I work on a lot of Savage and every now and then I find one that is sooo creamy smooth that you would think it came out of a custom shop. I have a Stevens action on one of my PD...

    First Purchase Advice

What I'd like to ask is : * Is 223 a viable option for a beginner ? I have lots of brass and the infrastructure is already in place to reload in quanity.I think a 223 is a good choice. The more affordable it is to shot... the more you are going to shot. * Barrel length choices...20, 24...

    savage target action

Most of the Savage actions are better then the Remy loving, Savage trash talkers on this site would have you believe. Good choice for a starting build and you can always re-barrel later easily if you get bored of the first set up.

    Fastest 6mm

Sounds fun. I would also run a slower twist barrel in the 1:15-1:14 twist range. Still be able to shot 75grainers etc. Should gain you a little and help keep bullets together. I had a 243AI that would do 4200 in a 26" 1:12 barrel but had to piss pound them out to do it. Hell on brass.

Has anyone tried the Midway USA Sniper's Drag Bag?

I agree with Fried Chicken, the handles are too far back. I have two, had the zipper pull problem with the first and did some seeing reinforcement with the second to fix it. For the money, they are very worth it. The interior straps are worthless, wrong positions and can't really be tightened...

Press for 22-250 through 300 Win mag

Sure you can. Lee's just as good as any other. Here's something else to remember when people start talking about alignment and tolerances in their 250 dollar presses, the case is held in the press by a Shell Holder. The case "floats" in the shell holder. That "floating" allows the case to guide...

Press for 22-250 through 300 Win mag

Also, you can do 50 BMG in a Lee Classic Cast. Yeah, it's that beefy.

Press for 22-250 through 300 Win mag

More proof that those talking bad about the Lee Classic Cast press haven't a clue about what they are talking about. The adjustable length and angle handle alone put it in a category above most. Some of the old pot metal ones were a little on the light side but still worked great for the casual...

Gunsmithing Sneak Peak at LongRifles Inc LH Tikka T3 Build "more pics"

Looks great! I met Chad about a month ago and he did a bolt and handle job on my Remy Bolt. He has a great shop and everyone there were great to met. A very professional individual. I'm sure this gun will shoot. Save that inletting program Chad. I'm in the middle of putting a shilen barrel on a...

How do you guys deprime pre tumble?

Just suck it up and tumble first, resize and tumble again to get the lube off. It doesn't take that long.

Lee collet die is buckling my brass :(

I agree, deburr and polish up the collet a little. Those are great dies, some just need a little TLC just like any other die.

    Beam vs. Digital scales

I have a RCBS auto dispenser and if it failed tonight, I would replace it tomorrow. I only use it for extruded powder and for weighing my spherical power. I use a Redding Br powder thrower for my spherical powder and once set, it throws loads within .1 grain all night long. It's very quick that...

Press for 22-250 through 300 Win mag

Go with the Lee Classic Cast Press. They should be priced twice as much as they are. If anyone thinks they are inferior because they cost less has obviously never handled one or understands their features. Lee used to make (may still do) a cheap aluminum press for first timers and while it works...
