New shooter - looking at PRS, would like my plan sanity-checked

Just to give you a heads up, it's going to sound like myself (and likely others) are going to want you to spend more money; that is not the case. We all want to try to help prevent the same mistakes we made. Everyone tries to keep costs down "at the beginning, just to see if I like it" but...

New shooter - looking at PRS, would like my plan sanity-checked

Yo! Welcome, glad to have any new folks! You're in an interesting position moving here from abroad an presumably not brining any center-fire rifles with you. So, let me lay it out. Hunting rifles SUCK for target shooting. Target rifles SUCK for hunting. Desirable traits in either category make...

Not if you are using a barrel nut, no. Yes if you are using a shouldered pre-fit.

Haha, darn, I wanted to be the first! I've got a flat face .308 savage takeoff barrel on mine but haven't gotten it into a chassis yet to see if it will feed.

Ah... the .44" is center to center and the rear screw does not move... so it's not super helpful now that you bring it up. Dang... that is a VERY good question. I'm not sure I want to un-time my trigger to get the answer though :-( maybe someone who hasn't gotten their trigger on can chime in?

I'm a software developer and have really crummy calipers so take this with a grain of salt. All dimensions in inches.

Coup De Grâce, New Action from American Rifle Company, $899 WOW!

I do not know if this will help anyone, but I figured I'd post it in case. I picked up my CDG on Monday and have been fiddling with it. It, frankly, is a work of art. I have two Mausingfields (an M5 and an M7) and I love them, the CDG is somehow just a little different. It is beautiful to...

kid friendly / loaner match rifle

I mean, sounds like the right track. I would actually say the only real requirement is adjustable length of pull and MAYBE comb height...

do you completely remove the "wings" in the front? or do you just "groove" them and make them thinner?

May I ask what you mean by the "new" mdt metal magazine? The one that is currently listed on their site? How do you mod it to accept longer rounds. I have one and I cant figure this out, it's not like the front can be "clipped" to open it up like the metal accurate-mag one can.

Looking for known accurate 223 loads

24-25 grains of Varget and a 68gr Hornady BTHP has always done extremely well for me.

New to reloading. Just got gear, now what..

This might not be helpful, it's a "basics overview" but it is free and available while waiting for paper: https://ramshot.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/WesternPowdersHandloadingGuide8.0_WEB.pdf

New to reloading. Just got gear, now what..

Honestly, I think you're smart. I normally tell people not to buy a kit (because you'll ultimately replace every bit of it piece by piece). You do need a manual (as everyone has said), it is important to read the step by step directions carefully. Also, it's not a library book, you can...

    First custom rifle build

Every action suggested in this thread so far is a R700 footprint and can be dropped into any R700 chassis or stock.

    First custom rifle build

Based on what you've said you desire PLUS you want to start reloading for it, and you're starting from zero, I would strongly suggest 6.5C if you want to immediately be happy with the groups you shoot. A second consideration is how hard some components are to buy at the moment, get a .308. There...

1994 AWB. What was actually banned?

I actually had this thing next to my desk, so have some pics... After 2004 I drilled the pins out that held the plastic stock on, just to see what was going on under there. You can easily see how long the tube is and the holes. (this was from a factory Colt purchased in 2003) The threaded screw...
