    Saw a couple old semi's: Johnson 1942 30-06 & French MLe 1942-56 cal. 7.5?

Thanks for the feedback. I had read, in several places, that " some company" did a bad job on some conversions to 308. Wondered what a good smith could do. On the fence right now, given the History of their fire arms. Maybe je parle un peu de Francais.

Rifle Camo, why? (Can of worms)

Oh, yeah. Men and our hobbies. Used to be muscle cars, back in the days. I'm currently on the hunt for a nice walnut stocked tikka master Sporter.. I " get" the stability of the plastic stocks and the protection of ceracote, against rust. I grew up in a day when a fine gun had fine wood. Fine...

    Saw a couple old semi's: Johnson 1942 30-06 & French MLe 1942-56 cal. 7.5?

Thanks, samnev. How much do you shoot the Mas? Any accuracy? Slam fires? I read, some where, that there's a " guy" that works on them, and that they can be converted to 308. What's the collectors value for the future? Now I'm thinking about getting both. The reason I need to stay out of gun...

Late 60's custom Sako Finwolf dilemma

I would shoot it, think of the history, and enjoy a really nice gun. In time, your kids will come around. Hopefully, before your health goes and then it will be " my Dad's most special gun". Besides, It's a 308. Not a barrel burner. Keep a round count. My father left me a couple fine shotguns ...

Cost v. Benefit of Reloading .308

Every time I book a tuna fishing charter, my wife says I should just go buy some Tuna and " Save the money" .She gets a blank stare. Same thing with the reloading. How about reloading after the kid goes to bed? an hour here, an hour there, can get it done.

    Saw a couple old semi's: Johnson 1942 30-06 & French MLe 1942-56 cal. 7.5?

Thanks Dan, for the link. Now I've got a quandary. The French Mas or the JM stamped 45-70 Marlin. Thanks pm, for the Johnson info. They also had a K98 sniper, I got excited about, for $1250.00, until the owner explained it was cobbled together from parts and the scope was a fake. Nice of him...

    Saw a couple old semi's: Johnson 1942 30-06 & French MLe 1942-56 cal. 7.5?

They had the Johnson "reduced" from $8K, down to $5500. Neat piece. I just searched the Mas 56. Interesting. Might grab that one, if I can find some ammo for it.

Any one heard of these? The French MLe seemed nice, but can you get ammo for it?

    KRG stock questions

Better check the barrel, before you commit to anything. How many shots did your Grandad shoot, with that gun.I looked at an older Remmy, fat barrel in 222. Very nice gun till I inspected the bore.l Cooked!

    Tikka rebarrel?

Hey, in McKinney. I was there, last week.met a good guy down in Kerrville if that's not too far. Hill Country Arms, 1013 Sidney Baker 830-792-7722. Is funny, his name is Josh. Vet. Knows his stuff, though we didn't talk Tikkas, specifically. I'm sending something to work on.

    308 accuracy problem

Hope you kept the old stock. Might just be you, getting broken into the new stock. I'd carve back the bedding, though. Might be that, too. I just picked up an old Savage, for kicks, and it shoots great. Plain factory everything. I thought about bedding it and some other upgrades but came to...

Just Finished the Reloading Bench Build

Looks really good and heavy. Nice job. Only thing I'd do, is an an edge, to stop " rollers", and a couple coats of eurethane on the top.

    Tikka Master Sporter?

I'll probably kick myself for a while for missing that one. Stepped away from my Hide addiction for a week and.............I have some plastic and laminate stocks. Been missing real wood. I can't understand why any manufacturer of a "fine, accurate rifle" would do a 223 in 1/12, but oh well...

    Tikka Master Sporter?

I shot one, awhile ago, and liked it. I just missed one on the sale board. Been doing some looking around, and researching the rifle. I'm actively looking for a 595. In my search, I found specs that said the 223s came with a 1/12 twist. Does any one know if that was for all of them, or for...

Cost v. Benefit of Reloading .308

Everything seems to boil down to time vs money. I'm retired, so I've got the time. I also really like to see my home-crafted ammo shoot little groups. I probably don't save any money cause I shoot more. Crap! Maybe my wife IS right? I'm really just wasting time and money!

My secret to speedy case prep....

LOL! Great post. Makes me feel good, to read it. I was feeling a little guilty. When I babysit my 7 yr. old grand daughter, she loves to help run the press. Last time, we did 500 .45 ACPs. I'd put em in and take em out. She was on the lever. WATCH the fingers, though! She goes before I say...

Recommend me a portable drill for case trimming/prep functions

With 30 yrs. hands on, in construction, I'd go Dewalt 18v 1/2 in chuck with 2 batteries. I have 2 that are 12-15 yrs. old and still going. Batteries don't last that loNg, though. Milwaukee is good, too. Just don't get a ryohbi.

    .45 ACP reloading issue

I'm on my first cup of coffee, here, and my brain hurts, already. It' obvious those bullets were made for the old "Cold War" .45 Shitspop Auto. It fired an amazing 5700 RPM, so they undersized them to cut down on friction, and used a paper patch system so they were untraceable. Just talked to...

    .44 special rifle load

I shot thousands of 44 special loads, in my .44 mag pistol. I've used both types of primers, and both cases, with good results. When loading in Special cases, and magnum primers, I'd start on the lower end, and work up [how many times does that need repeating]. If you are shooting a rifle, and...

Anybody care to explain this charge weight/POI ridiculousness?

Thanks, Jelrod1, for the link. My view of the world just changed. AND, Those guys seem pretty civil. Nobody got flamed! No Cobras. Gonna join that site.
