    The Fix from Q

The extra holes are through holes that allow adjustment of the pad up or down about .420" However the adjustment comes from moving the larger 3/8" studs up or down. The butt pad stays in the same spot on the plate. I think it would've looked odd to have the pad overhang the plate if it went up...

    Hunting & Fishing Best Camo?

I've got a few pieces from a lot of different companies. I don't necessarily buy it for the camo, I have lots of solid/earth tones. I buy it for the quality and comfort. Hunting mostly backpack style or spot and stalk I do a fair amount of hiking. I've got a mixture of Sitka, Kuiu, and Eddie...

    Gunsmithing the intricacies of threading?

Correct. Pitch Diameter can be reduced, not increased. If the barrel threads are out of tolerance as the Muzzle Brake manu. says, it could possible be re-threaded/chase the threads. There isn't a large margin for error and the setup is critical to get things concentric to the bore. Taking of...

    Hunting & Fishing Backpacking food

Justin's Peanut Butter has single serve puches. Their weight to calorie ratio is pretty good. I also pack some of the Starkist Tuna pouches have some decent calories and good amounts of protein. These are both good snake size things that don't weigh a ton. I also like the Stinger Waffles too...

    The Fix from Q

I agree, I think the Fix really shines for me as a hunting rifle. The distances I'm killing deer or pigs, they don't care if it comes from 16" barrel or a 26" one. The shorter barrel is much easier to handle/pack. I'd love to get my hands on a 16.5" or 18" 6.5 barrel. Hopefully when I save a...

    ORIGIN Orders

Finally got my Origin all together and took it to the range this weekend. Pretty stoked how things turned out. Ran 60 rounds through it without a hiccup.

    ORIGIN Orders

I've ordered from Red Hawk Rifles before and had good results. They carry them and show them in stock. Can't help you with your question about what height to go with though. https://redhawkrifles.com/hawkins-long-range-hybrid-rings/

Ultra light / Light weight DBM bottom metals for R 700 short action

Just weighed my short action PTG flush mount M5 bottom metal. It's 3.2oz by it self and 4.3 oz with the supplied hardware and aluminum pillars.

Ultra light / Light weight DBM bottom metals for R 700 short action

I would think something like the PTG stealth would be the lightest, or any other flush mount DBM. Is having the bottom metal hang below the stock line for a barricade stop important for your purposes? Obviously less material = less weight. I've got a PTG flush mount at home, I'll try and weigh...

    The Fix from Q

I'm running the Vickers padded sling too. Fairly comfortable, and the pull tab is nice for quick adjustments.

    The Fix from Q

No, carbon fiber barrels can't be shortened. You're stuck with the 24" length. You'd have to order a shorter blank from proof and have it chambered if you want a shorter carbon fiber barrel.

    The Fix from Q

Yeah, that's how i'm feeling. I've got around 250 rounds on it now and I feel like things are getting better each trip out.

    The Fix from Q

Took my Fix out this past weekend to test out a few different factory loads. Shot some Winchester 140 grn Match, 143 ELD-X and 147 ELD-M this weekend. Seems like the 147 ELD-M's are shooting the best, I've been hovering around 1.00 MOA. It's taken a little time to get used the weight of the...

    Cutting a Fix Barrel

I cut my 22" Creedmoor barrel down to 16.5" If done properly by a competent gun smith you shouldn't see any accuracy issues. Cutting The Fix barrel isn't any different than cutting down a barrel on any other bolt gun. As you mentioned, about the only negative is the loss in velocity. Cut down...
