Do I really have this much to learn

So...have been precision shooting rimfire for about 5 years now. Been through a number of guns, right now have a heavy barrel Savage in .22WMR that is a consistent 1" at 100m. Stepped up this year to centerfire. Bought myself two guns...a Sharps in 45-70, just 'cause I've watched Quigley Down...

    Probably a stupid question....

So what has worked with my .22 is just to have the stock resting on the bag...I take it I should be squeezing the bag so it becomes more solid? It seems to be at the right height, but I have noticed that because I am just resting the stock on the bag, and it is soft that the stock slides around...

    Probably a stupid question....

So...been shooting precision rimfire for a few years now. Had good success with a Savage with Harris bipod and TAB rear bag...the squishable kind. Upped the ante this year and stepped into centerfire...nothing extravagant...a Mossberg Nighttrain with one of the new Nikon tactical scopes. So...

Rifle Scopes why are 6x zoom scopes so much more expensive

It's the same with camera lenses. Once you go beyond a 3 or 4 power zoom ratio, things get expensive fast. Simple fact of optics. Pincushion and barrel distortion (wherein straight lines do not appear 'straight' especially at the edges of the field of view) and chromatic aberration (typically...

Rifle Scopes Top 3 scopes at different price points?

Just picked up one of these http://www.nikonsportoptics.com/en/nikon-products/scopes/black/index.page (6x24x50) Hope it is as good as their cameras/lenses.

Are there any Sharps Shooters here?

Ordered a Pedersoli Sharps Carbine in 45-70 beginning of December...just arrived two weeks ago. Well worth the wait. Only been out with it a couple of times, but it has quickly become my favorite 'plinking' rifle (though don't know if $40 box for ammo and 'plinking' belong in the same sentence)...

Does Sniper's Hide really need the constant flow of LE bashing?

Talking on the phone (stats now show distracted driving kills as many as impaired). So basically you're pissed because he's interfering with your right to do something stupid that may kill someone. Okay.... BTW, maybe you don't have kids, but the reason the school zone speed limit goes till 4:30...

    The new 17 WSM

The 'point' (mine anyways) is that I live in a fairly built up rural area...I have neighbors less than 500m away on one side. I also have a coyote and groundhog problem. I don't want to use a round that could be deadly for miles (am very careful with the .22WMR for that matter)...they don't...

what do you use to kill tree rats

Yoteman...there's a whole lot of people here I would enjoy sitting around with a beer or coffee (or single malt scotch)...you included. I've never mentioned it but your scribblings on .22 accuracy have been very informative and fun to read.

what do you use to kill tree rats

That's what I was getting at Yoteman...though 'true' respect has to be earned...but there is the respect that we should give everyone (again, until they prove they don't deserve it) that is lost today...maybe just call it manners. I too have two young sons (11 &13). This happened within the...

what do you use to kill tree rats

Nah, you're old...but I wonder about the 'younger' generation these day. 'Respect your elders'...a thing of the past. Not saying age automatically gives you great knowledge...but I was taught to treat everyone with respect, especially my elders...at least till they proved they didn't deserve it...

Tripods, manfrotto 190 series vs the 055's

I sell both of these models (work in the photo industry). For stability the 055 is definitely the way to go. The only reason I'd suggest the 190 is if you are going to be packing your gear long distances where every pound is going to count.

    Savage Mk II FSS

Lots of people are happy with their Savage's...to bad you've had a bad experience. But do I have to read this on every rimfire blog there is??

I need advice on a rifle for a 7 year old

All well and good...my beef with your post is the term 'stupid'...you know, try that (antiquated, I know) idea of being polite to others.

I need advice on a rifle for a 7 year old

And making blanket judgment calls is 'stupid' as well. I started shooting when I was 8 with my cut down Cooey. Within the year I had my bronze, silver and gold CIL shooting pins (from a youth program in Canada at the time). It was a suggestion...nothing 'stupid' about it.

I need advice on a rifle for a 7 year old

When I started shooting many years ago (about your sons age) my father bought me a Cooey. Cut off about 1.5" (as I recall) from the end of the stock. Fit me fine and when I got older he screwed the piece he took off (which of course he'd saved) and I was set to go.

    Just because it says match...

I've done a lot of reading over the last three years since I purchased my Savage .22WMR. It came down to it vs the .17HMR. The salesman convinced my that the .22WMR would have more knockdown power at 125yds than the .17, the distance that a lot of my coyote shooting seems to occur. Of course as...

Do not buy or trust a lifeproof case!!!!!!

Sorry to say you're being too tough on Lifeproof (I'm being somewhat sarcastic here) . They're response is sort of the standard of many industries it appears. I deal with photographic equipment. As many of you are probably aware most of the camera companies now make underwater...
