PNTC Tactical Rifle Match 11/09/13 Gerrardstown ,WV

Good match. Thanks to Peacemaker and the Polhuski's for putting this on. It was a tough course of fire and the winds didn't help, but it was the same for everyone and I think the best shooter won. Congrats to him - excellent shooting especially on the very difficult barrier stage. The prize...

308 win for 1 mile shot

Shooting at a mile with a 308 if a fun exercise, but it's not practical by any means. The times I have done it it was middle of the summer, so it was dry and the misses would at least make a dust splash. If it had rained or the grass was high, it was a waste of time and ammo. It might be good...

Kestrel, valuable tool or waste of money?

It's so much simpler to just use the uncorrected pressure off a Kestral and skip the altitude. I've shot at Bang Steel, 2650MSL, TVP, 900 MSL, Peacemaker, 700 MSL or 850 MSL depending which range you ae on, Culpepper, 350 MSL and K&M, 200 MSL. Plug the numbers (uncorrected pressure, temp and...

    .308 Winchester

Well - explain how ammo I loaded a year ago out of the same jug of Varget is running at 2720 and the pieces I loaded recently are running 2550 with the exact same load. Jug is nearly empty and it's been sitting for a while.

    .308 Winchester

Just a little level set - I haven't loaded that much 308 in the last year since I got my 6.5CM, so that powder has probably set for a while. Plus, I usually load in lots of 50, which, at ~44 gr per round, means that jug was opened ~25 times and then it set for nearly a year. I saw this in...

    .308 Winchester

I got to test the 308 loads today to see what was going on. The good stuff, 175 OTMs 43.5 gr Varget, Lapua brass, CCI200, shot 4.2 mil at 600 today. Then I shot the 175s I loaded to the same spec from the Varget left in the 8# jug. It shot just a bit low, like .7 mil low. The 168 Target...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Springfield XD-S Recall

Looks like sometime in either late September or early October, so probably by Christmas or after New Years.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Springfield XD-S Recall

Just got an update explaining where they are with returning guns during the recall. Looks like I'll get mine back between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was mostly hype about how much better the gun is now. Whatever.

    6.5 CM or 260 Rem

Might be higher quality - might not be. Definately more expensive and I'd less concerned about losing Hornaday brass at a match. But will it shoot better and/or last longer to be worth the extra cost? Me being me, I'll probably get 100 pieces and see.

    Annealing 6.5Cr Hornady brass

I am full length resizing with a Redding S type bushing die with the expander ball removed. I weigh every charge I throw on an RCBS Chargemaster.

    Annealing 6.5Cr Hornady brass

I'm annealing every time I reload my 6.5 CM brass. I haven't lost any necks yet, but I have lost primer pockets at anywhere from 6-12 firings. I also trim every time. Usually the first 2-3 reloads I'm only trimming .002-.003" after that it's .006-.012" every reload. Also, I use a primer...

    Weird problem shooting...

You could also be slamming the bolt forward too hard and knocking the bullet and nect out of concentricity. You want to be smooth (yes, you can still be fast) and let the cartridge slide into the chamber. It's probably less of a problem single feeding since, by the nature of it, you don't...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Springfield XD-S Recall

So, are the people who are getting their gun back getting shipping notices to their email? Just wondering.

    Winchester to Lapua load data?

For me, it's .5 gr less in the Lapua brass. 44.0 in Win brass, 43.5 in Lapua. Dan, you need to shoot at sea level more. You'd learn to push your loads harder. ;)

Sidearms & Scatterguns Springfield XD-S Recall

I sent mine in mid-september and have not received a nitification it was comeing back yet. The extended mag would be nice as that makes it a 7+1, which is a little better for carry. Too bad the trigger is not as good. I guess I will find out when I get mine back.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Springfield XD-S Recall

Yes, what this is in my case is gunk getting into the safety and firing pin. When I pushed down the safety (the stepped pin at the rear of the slide off to one side) it was crunchy. I aternatively ran it through the ultra-sonic cleaner and sprayed it out with Hornaday gun cleaner with a dry...

    New rifle, what caliber????

Or with the monster FTE brake I have on my 6.5 CM it's like shooting a 22 with a really loud bang.

    .308 Winchester

My thought was to do both. 5 of each with the same load from the jug and 5 175s from a group that is shooting how I expect them too. Last 5 pulls, resize and replace from a good 175 batch with 168s. I'll have a control group with the 5 "good" 175s, 5 175s and 5 168s from the same part of...
