    Seeing the hit

I Designed and make them, I also Tune the ports for the Maximum recoil reduction. We also tested other side port brakes with no top ports that were very good but elected not to show them because even though they were better than most they did not do as well as the Assassin and we did not want...

    Seeing the hit

Shooting off hand and out of a deer stand was what brought it to out attention. You can feel the rifle pushing down and see the target move up. Shooting off hand or off a soft rest would probably be easier on the rifle but the down force would still be there. Doing the test off a Lead Sled...

    Seeing the hit

I have seen very high speed videos of the bullet leaving the barrel before any perceptible movement takes place . That's why it does not appear to hurt accuracy. It is the other effects that bothered me. There is a new video coming out soon with some very high speed video that should answer...

    Seeing the hit

Thanks. There are a lot of fine shooting rifles with top port brakes so this is an effect that happens after the bullet exits the brake. My main concern was what happens to the bedding and the stock over time. even with heavy barrels the down force is still present, and applying this force to...

    Tame the beast

Yes. we tested it on a AR10 and the total recoil energy was 8.2 ft/lbs the percentage of reduction was 56% Depending on the load you use we might be able to tune the brake to almost 60% (less recoil than most 243 loads). Thanks J E CUSTOM

    Seeing the hit

We had to restrain it in order to see the effects of down force. I have a 338 RCM with a top port brake on it because it was bucking due to the weight of the rifle (6 lbs) and after several shots offhand I saw the ground under the game. my friend commented that he could feel the 300 RUM pushing...

    Tame the beast

The rifle without any brake was 107 DB with the tuned brake, 105 DB you still need to wear hearing protection though. Normal turn around is 2 days if I am not booked or if I can work you in. I live in Clute Texas (50 miles south of Houston) call 979-415-4767 for more info. Thanks J E CUSTOM

Brakes n Suppressor's question for users

Some brakes are very bad if you are next to the shooter, or if you are the shooter because they direct the sound and shock wave back toward the shooter. Some are not as bad as others and direct the gas away from the shooter. I have done a lot of testing on different types of brakes and found...

Trigger pull for beginner... how low to go? (40X trigger)

Trigger pull for beginner... how low to go? (40X trigger)

+1 4 pounds is the minimum for high power matches and it works fine for accuracy. I shot matches for many years with a 40x set at 4.0 pounds and have tried triggers down to .7 pounds and found that it was actually to light for my type of hunting. I finally settled on 2.2 to 2.5 for all of my...

Barrel fluting - what is it good for?

Without stirring up another controversy I recommend looking on Dan Lilja's web site under FAQs and he has a very good explanation about what Fluting does for you. He explains the weight savings and what it does for strength. He is one of the best barrel makers and knows his stuff so his...

Up date: Based on the chamber cast, My chamber has .205 free bore (SAMMI is .171) I am sure this is not perfect but it is close (Within .005 + or -). Thanks again. It may explain the velocity improvement If the reloading books used the old SAMMI spec. chamber. J E CUSTOM

    Gunsmithing Metric Threads

BTW, I like the brakes you're making. Thanks. I have a few more test to perform on the Assassin Brake on the larger calibers and will post the results as soon as the video is finished. These test should conclude all the R&D I wanted to do and maybe enlighten a few people in the process. I...

    Gunsmithing Metric Threads

Your not giving me a hard time. We are just discussing this thread and I respect your opinion. I just don't want to be around when something goes wrong. Springfield armory has/had a list of searial numbers that had problems with heat treat and also some different batches of barrels that were...

Thanks . I will do a chamber cast and find out what I have. I suspect it is the second version because of the velocities I am getting with no pressure signs. Thanks again J E CUSTOM

I was just reading back over the post and saw your post and just thought I would comment on it. First you are right about killing hogs with a 22 LR in some parts of Texas but where I live (South Texas) there is thick brush and the chance of a shot over 75 yards is rare. and most of the time...
