Santa came a little early this year...

Very nice. Your bedding job looks exactly like the how to pics on accurate reloading. Very impressive.

    Rem 700 trigger Upgrade Question

I had a Timney and it was nice, but it was not a significant upgrade from the old style Remington. I have mine set at 2 lbs and 3.3 lbs and they both break clean. I have no reason to upgrade other than a desire to tinker with something. I think if your factory trigger does not break clean, take...

    What suppressor for a .22??

My Spectre 2 says clean every 1000 rounds. This can is nice as it is rated for 22wmr and 17 hmr as well as 5.7x28. I like the versatility of this can.

    Pat vs Bronocs

that ending was anticlimactic. although it figures to end on a fumble.

    MK12 ring question.

The standard height for AR scope rings is 1.4". If you measure the thickness of the top rail and subtract from 1.4", you should get the approximate ring height to the ring centerline.

    Gunsmithing Rifle Bedding Problem!

I use studs from Home Depot, wrap them in blue tape, add some release agent (mentioned above), then redrill the hole after I have removed the barrel action to provide better clearance. I use a countersink to remove the sharp edges around the bolt holes.

Remington 700 Police - talk me out of buying one

Just do it. You won't regret it until you have to buy a base, rings, and optic

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Hi-Cap .45 anything wrong with a P14-1911?

I have a STI eagle in 40. From the factory it had some reliability issues related to feeding. After a little massaging, the gun is dead nuts reliable. I have heard the 45s can be tricky to get to run, but I will find that out next year when I build one. As far as size, I have tiny hands. The...

Sidearms & Scatterguns How common are bent/broken firing pins on 1911s?

Never heard of it. As has been said, replace the firing pin spring. When replacing the firing pin, I would buy a quality piece from a known manufacturer. A Wilson bullet proof comes to mind.

Sidearms & Scatterguns SIG p226 Navy

Clear fingernail polish around the primer will make the ammo fairly water resistant. Water should not be able to get around the bullet.

Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 grips - need recommendation

I use vz grips diamondbacks in g10. My wife loves them. The g10 material is not as sharp as micarta. Any aggressive grip in micarta will cut your hands. In g10, the edges are not as sharp.

    build or buy?

Shilen is a favorite of the bench rest crowd, less so among tactical and high power shooters. A lot of people build on savage actions, but they are less popular than Remington. However, it is easy to install a savage barrel due to the barrel nut. Since you already have it, I would just build on...

Need Help - getting into long range shooting

The sps is a good place to start. As you will find ad nauseum on this website, you can start with this rifle and customize as needed. When the rifle accuracy holds you back, just have the action trued and drop in a custom barrel. I would also add a McRee stock as it is amazing how a quality...

Gunsmithing Remington 700 bedding "How To"?

Iron Brigade Armory divulged their technique in an issue of Tactical Shooter about 15 years ago. If you can find the article posted online, it would be worthwhile.

Looks like a great deal to me.

    223 limits

Try several bullets and find out what it likes. My 223 PSS (1-9" twist) tolerated 69 grain SMKs, liked 77 grain SMKs and absolutely loves 80 grain SMKs. I was always told the 9" twist would not stabilize over a 69 grain bullet. One day my reloading partner was testing loads for his service...
