Rifle Scopes Why Mils over IPHY?

Re: Why Mils over IPHY? Honestly, why doesn't someone make a scope that adjusts in grad so we can have something else to argue about? Here ya go Lindy: sin(.001)=y=.0009999998333... cos(.001)=x=.9999995000004... x_1=1, y_1=0 (unit circle)...

    Why is target ammunition subsonic?

Re: Why is target ammunition subsonic? Transonic range is technically between mach .75 and 1.20, so whether it's subsonic or supersonic, pretty much all .22lr exits the muzzle transonic. In the upper transonic region, drag increases disproportionately higher than the velocity increases...

    Rifle Scopes tripod/ head

Re: tripod/ head Yeah, that's the one I use. One of the fluid video heads like jw mentions would also be a good idea. I personally don't think the grip heads are very good at all. I've used one of the vertical ones which was too tall. It just couldn't support much weight at any angle...

Rifle Scopes Spotting scope and rangefinder on same tripod?

Re: Spotting scope and rangefinder on same tripod? If the two optics are 8" apart and aligned to the same target at only 100 yards, the angle between them is only 7.6 MOA. That's about 1/10th of 1 degree. If you choose to align them at a longer range, it will be even less. In practice...

Rifle Scopes Spotting scope and rangefinder on same tripod?

Re: Spotting scope and rangefinder on same tripod? On my mount the picatinny grooves were done on a mill, so any optics mounted to them "should" align, but I've yet to have two rifle scopes on it at one time. Right now I align the spotting scopes with feeler gauges, which is clumsy and slow...

Rifle Scopes My Leupold VX-3 is on the frittz!!!

Re: My Leupold VX-3 is on the frittz!!! Sounds like you're near the limits of the erector travel. There's probably nothing wrong with the scope. What base and rings are you using? What model of scope?

    Rifle Scopes USO Spotter vs.?

Re: USO Spotter vs.? I use a Kowa 664 and USO on the same tripod, and yeah, the image quality is not comparable. I have an $85 Barska Blackhawk that resolves better than the USO. However, the USO really comes into it's own for ranging and calling shots. View your impact through the good...

    ptr rifles?

Re: ptr rifles? I'm at 4 reloads on my current batch of brass fired from G3s, and there's not really much wrong with it. The G3 isn't exactly "kind" to brass, but assuming you can find it in the bushes 40 yards away, there's no reason it can't be reloaded. Sure, the side of the case gets...

Gunsmithing Opening up bolt face on Rem 700

Re: Opening up bolt face on Rem 700 Yes they can be opened up, but I just happen have a magnum bolt and would rather have a standard. PM me if you'd be interested in a trade.

    Rifle Scopes tripod/ head

Re: tripod/ head I use a Manfrotto 055xProb and a 3275/410 gear head. It's a bit heavy, but it's pretty stable, and it can go as low or as high as you'll need (maybe 8 inches to well over 6 feet). The gear head gives you the capability to make minor adjustments by turning small knobs...

Rifle Scopes Spotting scope and rangefinder on same tripod?

Re: Spotting scope and rangefinder on same tripod? I made a plate that attaches to my tripod head and can mount multiple spotting scopes. I put two picatinny sections on it as well, so I could do side by side comparisons of rifle scopes. I can send you a picture if you want, but really...

Rifle Scopes 40 MOA base for SA 700??

Re: 40 MOA base for SA 700?? Badger makes a 45, and I think Near makes one as well.

Rifle Scopes Confuse leupold EFR,who can help me?

Re: Confuse leupold EFR,who can help me? It's not going from 10 to 30... etc. See how you drew the lines under all the numbers? See how the line under the 10 is shorter than the others? Those lines probably coincide with the revolutions of the objective, and it likely takes 3 revolutions to...

Suppressors Smallest and rarest of all .45 automatics.

Re: Smallest and rarest of all .45 automatics. How does the "extraction", ejection, and feeding work? From the picture, it looks like it has a fixed extractor mounted on the frame, but how does it get the fired case out and the new cartridge in?

Rifle Scopes US Optics turret questions

Re: US Optics turret questions I've had a couple of st-10s, and have seen a couple of sn3s, and they all had that problem of lack of hash marks for elevation and windage reference. You are correct when you say that it's currently zeroed for windage, and if you adjust right at all, you'll...

Gunsmithing The zero problem from hell continues...

Re: The zero problem from hell continues... Leupold only lists that scope as having 65 MOA travel. Did you actually measure the 85 MOA, or just use the limits of the knob travel? Using Leupold's figures, and figuring about 4 MOA lost getting to 100 yards, you should have about 48 MOA left...

    Rifle Scopes cheek piece

Re: cheek piece If you're going to get a new stock anyway, just tape a piece of the closed cell foam on there. Problem solved.
