    There are a very limited quantity available to the public. I considered buying a used one from a forum classifieds ad but the guy was asking more than list price. <BS>It would have been a good scope to go along with my Premier 1-8x and BEAST.</BS>

    I have only brief experience with a EOTech / magnifier combo. There was no blooming or distortion that I noticed. After owning several EOTechs, the biggest thing I notice is a grainy reticle. Glass quality and lack of blooming is what drew me towards the holographic sights.

    C'mon, it's a more than just 8 characters. ;) There were about a half dozen of the NSN marked M8541 scopes for sale on the internet last summer between roughly $3k to $6k. The non-NSN marked scopes have cropped up from time to time from $2.5k to over $6k. (Not mine)

    The spec is 1.5" of bedding in front of the lug. That is also approximately where the barrel begins to taper.

    Both alloys with a T6 temper have close to the same elongation at break. (12% for 6061 versus 11% 7075.)     Judging from the pictures, I believe it is a Mark 4 MR/T. It looks to be too short for an LR/T. Besides, the correct scope for a Mk 12 is supposed to be a Mark 4 3-9x36 MR/T with M3 turrets.

    Another vote here for the Daniel Defense Omega rails. No removal of the delta ring or gas block. They install with a screwdriver and included allen wrench. Best of all, they lock up solid and true to the upper receiver.
