    The blackhawks are pretty solid I wear then as a helicopter flight mechanic. Due to cabin height I spend a lot of time down on my knees while hoisting. The gromet/rivets that attach the plastic piece have a tendancy to rip through but usually only one happens.

    The bushnell 1600 arc claims 1600 yards on reflective surfaces I have used mine to get accurate ranges on game sized rocks past 1000 yards but you have to be very stable and I wouldnt expect to get an accurate range on a game annimal past 1000 although I really dont intend to be taking any shots...

    One other option is to use a lower end range finder to hit something half way between you and the target then walk to that point hit your target and add the two together not ideal but its another method that can help if you cant get into the $1900 Terrapin.

    Gyroscopic Mounting system

    You could look into modifing a camera stabalizer system which functions with built in gyros. It will probably be puke inducing however staring through an optic that is being gyro stabalized when you are still rocking and rolling in the waves.
