What are your favorite 7.62x51 /.308 semi autos

AR-10. ArmaLite has a flat-top upper with a Lothar Walther 24" stainless steel barrel. White Oak tuned trigger seals the deal.

    Precision Dies for reloading

Neck size with a Lee Collet neck sizing die, and size the body/bump the shoulder with a Redding body/shoulder bump die. No lube required on the neck sizing process, BTW. And neck thickness inconsistencies don't make much (if any) difference. I run my turned necks and unturned necks through the...

    reloading questions and tips

I read the original post again, and will try to address the isssues I see. I would get an RCBS Rockchucker Supreme press, and you're fixed for life. Neck tension is set properly and with maximum consistency by the Lee Collet neck sizing die, but the RCBS full-length die set will do fine...

    reloading questions and tips

I second the motion to get Redding body/shoulder die, Lee collet/mandrel neck sizer, and Forster micrometer bullet seater die. However, I would recommend a 6.5 round, like 6.5 Creedmoor. You'll load more rounds, and get smaller groups, and still be able to punch it out to 1,000 yards without...

    2 stage R700 triggers

I have an Anschutz trigger on a Win Model 70, so I think it might be possible to fit one to a Rem 700. Lower limit is about 10 ozs. unless there's some further modification I don't know about. Also, Grunig & Elmiger makes a trigger that looks to me like a clone of the Tubb design (or vice...

    Savage Model 12 LRP

I have some different thoughts; first, I would bed the rifle, because I bed everything to be confident that the rifle will hold its zero. They also seem to improve regarding group size. I am a great fan of the AccuTrigger, but I recommend the target model with the red blade. They can be adjusted...

    Angled shooting question

If your line of sight range is 500, and your shoot-to range is 430, the angle should be about 30 degrees. If those agree, your equipment got it right. Look at the amount of error that's possible. Say you use the wrong slope number by 10 degrees, and used 20 degrees, which would be a shoot-to of...

First time shooting my own loaded ammo/Report... more advice needed

From this target, I would look at the loads for target #3 and target #12. They are both higher than all the other targets; this might indicate a node, since one indication of a node is that the barrel is at the top of the vibration wave, sending that bullet higher than others which are not...

    Maggie’s RIP Jim Fowler

Marlin Perkins: "Now Jim will wrestle the 550 lb. gorilla, then place the 25 ft. anaconda in the truck. Jim? Jim? Do you need any assistance there?" The man made Tarzan look like Buttercup the snowflake.

    6.5 Creedmoor

Can you get Norma 204 or URP, or Vihtavuori N140 or N540? Any of those should do just fine. I've used N540, and it is probably the one I would recommend. Check their website for loads. N550 provides better velocity. It depends somewhat upon the bullet weight you plan to shoot. Do you mean Lovex...

    Rifle Scopes Optic suggestion request...

I like to keep a back-up scope available for when my best one breaks. I recommend the Simmons 6-20x50 for $110. It tested so well for me that I put it on my hunting rifle. I had an expensive scope fail to make 1,000 yds. when I was getting checked out on a range, and I used my Simmons-scoped...

New to LR with an old .30-06 savage

F-Class is two classes - F/Open (any caliber up to .30, and rifles less than 22 lbs) and F/TR (.223 Rem and .308 Win only, and less than 18 lbs, with the bipod attached). You can compete in an F-class match with any safe rifle (one that can hit the target with a stabilized bullet of no greater...

New to LR with an old .30-06 savage

OP: A previous post of yours said you were in the Mississippi Delta region. Go to the F-class matches in Donaldsonville, LA some time. It's south of Baton Rouge. Those guys are super shooters, and can put you in touch with a gunsmith. Website is paloaltogunclub.com.

New to LR with an old .30-06 savage

Send it to a gunsmith and get it done right. You can mail a rifle to the gunsmith for work to be done on it, and there is no FFL required. You have to use UPS, I think. He can mail it back to your house. Buy insurance when you ship.
