    Finally got it out today.

Picked up a new Remington 700 SPS Varmint over the holidays, mounted my Leupold VX1 4-12x40 to it and finally got out today to give it a spin. Zeroed the scope for a 300 yd zero, then confirmed it on the 8" 300 yd steel target. Tried shooting the 600 yd barrel, but we could not tell if any hits...

I am calling for a Christmas Truce on the Savage-Remington Front lines...

Are you talking those cases that were dismissed due to no evidence? And I don't think you need any decoys to make theives leave those Savages in your safe.:D In all seriousness I prefer Remingtons, but liked the Savages I've tried.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Favorite revolver

I am mighty fond of my old, not so pretty S&W M15-3 in plain old .38 Spl. She's got plenty of wear, but she shoots like a dream.

    700Pss/ SPSTactical .223-safe to shoot 5.56 M855

Milspec 5.56 brass is not always thicker. I wish this often presented "fact" would just go away.

    300 AAC BLK Brass Preference

One advantage to using GI brass, and this is minor, is there are nothing on it that says .223 or 5.56

    Dillon 550B, absolutely LOVE it

I just bought a 650. Waiting on the strongmount to show up and then I'm off and running towards loading up 1k of M80 ball for the M14. Single stage reloading is too slow to feed that beast. The TMag is on it's way towards being BPCR and LD loading only.

Should be a Christmas to remember for my son!

    Gunsmithing Victor lathes?

I'd be all over that lathe IF everything was in good order, but I am a sucker for the older machines and their easy controls. I don't really know what older mills are going for now.

    Fieldcraft Machete of choice?

I'm still trying to wear out the old bolo I picked up in the Phillipines back in 1990. Made from a truck leaf spring with water buffalo horn grips. It has always made short work of any brush or bamboo I encounter.

Fieldcraft ACU Camouflage pattern really that bad?

Bogeybrown, you are partly right. The MarPat came from the CadPat which in turn came from a bunch of digital patterns the Army was testing in the mid 90s, then dropped, prolly due to budgeting issues. From what little I've been able to find on this whole uniform SNAFU, MultiCam was the Army...

    Gunsmithing Victor lathes?

We got 3 Victors at work. All are fairly new. 2 of them are for bigger work, in fact the biggest has a around a 20 ft bed, and swings around 4 feet. They are Taiwanese. The smallest is so new that i've only used it once and it was very smooth, but it had better be being brand new. I still prefer...

    Remington 700 tolerances

Use a calibrated pin guage or like mentioned above make a plug to a set diameter and guage it. If you handed the snap guage to 10 different machinists you would get at least 7 different measurements.

    Rem 700 rust question

Seems you didn't get all the moisture out, or you have a damp area in your home. It is not a bad idea to pray water soaked firearms with a little WD40 before you clean them, just make sure you then clean the WD40 off and then lube with proper lube. I use Lubriplate 130A and CLP since I have a...

    Advice needed.

If you are wanting to get a new rifle, just as an excuse to get another, then there is nothing wrong with that.;) If you are like me, (not a lot of unaccounted for money lying around) then you could continue to keep sharpining your skills with what you have and learn to do the accurizing work...

Sidearms & Scatterguns glock or smith?

I've owned 4 Glocks, absolutely hated them in the .40 short and weak. I do like the G19 though. A good modern revolver, especially a magnum can be quite an addition to an arsenal. Most older S&W revolvers were known for their excellent trigger pulls. I am going to go with the minority here and...
