Gunsmithing Reworking my Howa, NEWCDI DBM LEVER!

Re: Howa and Remington Action/bolt truing. *I could be wrong on not being able to pick them up but I wasn't about to risk cross threading the action since it was my first time.* I could see how it might work but I havn't tried it. Back the carrage off the action, turn on the lathe and...

Gunsmithing Reworking my Howa, NEWCDI DBM LEVER!

Re: Howa and Remington Action/bolt truing. It can cut metric threads but you cannot disengauge the thread lever while cutting internal/external threads. To my knowledge you can't "pick up" an exsisting metric thread whith a standard TPI lead screw even if you change the gears to give you the...

    Gunsmithing Truing Remington 700 Question

Re: Truing Remington 700 Question There seem to be more pro's than cons IMHO when you re-cut the surfaces. It's the fact that all surfaces are cut in relation to one another or cut off the same center line if you will. The action is indicated by going off the bolt raceway where the lug...

Gunsmithing Reworking my Howa, NEWCDI DBM LEVER!

Re: Howa and Remington Action/bolt truing. Thanks MATT! @ gregt. The HOWA was the only one that didn't get the action threads single point cut do to the fact that you can't pick up a metric thread on a lathe with a US standard lead screw (sorry I didn't specify earlier). I just knocked...

Gunsmithing Reworking my Howa, NEWCDI DBM LEVER!

Re: Howa and Remington Action/bolt truing. The amount of metal removal is very very minute, were talking .001-.005 @ MOST. All you are really doing is removing just enough to get a clean even surface. It's the fact that all surfaces are cut in relation to one another or cut off the same...

Gunsmithing Build an AICS Chassis for a Howa 1500?

Re: Build an AICS Chassis for a Howa 1500? I too have been interested in making my own One-Piece chassis for a remington M700 SA to fit AICS skins. I am currently going to school for CNC so I am trying to get my teacher to allow me to make one. It would be nice to have a set of prints for...

How many of you "actually" shoot 500yds+ often?

Re: How many of you "actually" shoot 500yds+ often? I shoot at least to 625yrds every time I go to my own spot (about 2x's a month). When I compete (1x a month) it's usually 0-700yrds with a few that run to 1k so thats when I shoot the farthest. Before I began to shoot at local competitions I...

Gunsmithing Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal

Re: Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal good call! The DBM seems to be the true upgrade especially in the competition side. It nice to have a 10rnd mag and COF that requires 10shots. No reloading

    Rifle Scopes S&B 3-20x vs 5-25x

Re: S&B 3-20x vs 5-25x Seems like you couldn't go wrong with either or. Personally I like the idea of having 3x-20. Some times at competitions the COF might have a 5-10yrd shot so I could see where having the 3x would come in handy.

Gunsmithing Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal

Re: Pacific Tool and Gauge Bottom Metal The PTG is hands down a better made unit compared to the Factory Remington BDL metal. don't confuse the idea that because it just looks like a remington that it's not worth getting. For 125$ It's hard to beat. I don't worry about looks, I worry about...

What is the most versatile twist rate for .308?

Re: What is the most versatile twist rate for .308? Cant go wrong with either one but after using both I'm really starting to like the 1:12 tight bore the most. Look on bergers website they list the recomended twists per bullet, they say to use a 1:11 for the 210grn and a 1:12 for the 185grn.
