    Gunsmithing Rattle can painting

Before painting sit your paint can in a bath of warm water to touch, for 10 min...this will greatly improve the spray flow and get a nicer result. IF you really want a final color to stand out, use a white base primer first.

Multiple caliber kits / conversions question about serial number

Way over thinking this to my manner of resolution. Unless you are going to create a short barrel rifle on said receiver, I don't believe it matters what caliber barrel is attached to the legal receiver.

    Snap cap paint

They are. Your observation is impeccable! Get off the wallet and desist using those Carlson's wanne-be's in your gun art. Just the first draw of A-Zoom's in my inventory; never experienced any such flaking with their anodized coatings in thousands of use.

Gunsmithing Nightmare gunsmith Northwest Precision Rifles * REFUND RECEIVED

Wow. Seven years of rumination over a bad machining adventure. Not healthy. The five stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance: Glad someone finally accepted & healed.

Looking for general hunting gun for Florida hogs and deer.

Phase 5 Tactical bolt release. I have a number of them installed. Don't recall any difficulties with installation. I do change any bolt retaining roll pin with screw-in style axles to retain the bolt release. And apply marine grade shrink tubing about the lever to prevent marring the finish...

Looking for general hunting gun for Florida hogs and deer.

I set this one up specifically for hogs that want to destroy a grass runway in NE Florida. I use it inside 200 yards suppressed. The 14.5" KAC SR-25 is about the same weight with a longer legs to touch the beasts.

    Gunsmithing Torque Tools

Fix-It's are pretty handy but not in the range or configured for muzzle devices and castle nuts ; for the later I use the old school Craftsman click style.

    HK MR556

My HK MR556A1 was purchased in 2015. No $$ regrets; the gun was inexpensive in the day, the optics and mount$ hurt. It has been a great gun, pretty accurate out to 600 meters.

    LOP AR15 comparo: Entry, A1, A2

    A1=13.25" A2=14.25" This my understanding.

    LOP AR15 comparo: Entry, A1, A2

Some back story related to the single hole in the rear surface of the AR 15 / 16 MA1-A2's receiver extension. The original AR15/ M16 (with rubber butt pad) used a single screw (with no drain hole in the fastener) to secure the pad and fiberglass (Colt) buttstock into the single hole in the rear...

ISO AR Pistol Backpack OAL 23 in

Me too. Except there is no round chambered on the HK compact, it limits movement better than outside the trigger guard with the Crimson Trace accessory.

ISO AR Pistol Backpack OAL 23 in

First thing I would do, is configure your rig with a folding stock, then, you are back in the Universe of normal sized backpacks. Of all the soft packs I have only the Camelback Condor model ( 2-day pack) is long enough to accommodate a 23" Mk8 scoped rifle with a LawTactical folding stock...

Spife has it exactly correct. Our hearing is multi-conductive, bone thru our mastoid air-filled bone behind the ear you can feel its prominence, and thru-the-ear canal where sound energy which is transmitted via some membranes and small bones; both sound energy amplitudes impact the auditory...

Stripped rail screws how to unscrew?

Like most extractors, the Grab-It's mentioned above (post #24) you can see they have a left hand drill bit on one end and a left hand twist on the other. Use with cordless drill put in reverse mode for the 2-step operation, drill then extract.

Stripped rail screws how to unscrew?

I like the Laser Micro impact driver as it seems more proportionate for gunsmith sized screws and can fit in tighter spaces.

Gunsmithing Thread chaser for muzzle threads

You need to use a split die that can be applied beyond the faulty threads... I have a number of these for gunsmith use. An example of what you need, just get the muzzle thread size.

Stripped rail screws how to unscrew?

For gunsmith size fasteners I have found the Grab-It brand the best. Just one example. Finally, replace hex head fasteners with torx!
