Load Development in near 0 deg F weather

If I had a garage or a portable bench, I’d do that too... but I just sweep as much snow as I can off the picnic table, go for it, and change my soggy, icy pants when I get back inside. :)

Load Development in near 0 deg F weather

Only been down to 10 degrees this winter. But I actually shoot outside and give the rifle and ammo an hour to stabilize at the ambient temperature so I can test the stability of the load. I’ll test around 0 +/- 5 degrees tomorrow or Tuesday. Fun fact: from about 45 down to 10, the muzzle...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

That’s definitely an impressive looking scope... but for that weight and basic reticle style, I could get a Bushnell DMR for half the price or less, and I just sold the one I had because I want something a bit lighter with a lot more windage in the reticle for the average Wyoming gale (I like to...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

That’s great to hear, especially having seen new ones in the $1750-1850 range. Could be a hell of a deal if they track well and are optically sound with no reticle issues. Early reports are promising, so I’m mainly waiting for someone to really wring one out. I also really like that the zero...

Rifle Scopes So, what about Leupold Mark 5 ?

I’m looking forward to a detailed comparison between the Mark 5 3.6-18 and the Mark 6 3-18... I’m in the market for one of these (used if a Mark 6) for a 16” .308 AR, and light weight and a Tremor 3 at sub $2k are important to me, so these are pretty much my only options. I thought about the...

    Precision semi-auto peculiarities

Excellent, just tried that. Manhandling the grip plus a fairly heavy bipod load definitely didn’t hurt, and the recoil seemed to be more predictable that way. I think the forward impulse from the bolt carrier slamming back home was throwing the gun god knows where in my follow through, and...

    Precision semi-auto peculiarities

All good points... I think lock time might be the confounding factor I wasn’t considering. Occasionally I get twitchy if I hold still for too long (not the same as a flinch exactly, it happens if I’m really still in any context). A slight twitch at the wrong moment would defintely throw me off...

    Precision semi-auto peculiarities

Thanks! I think I’ve got the trigger reset covered. I probably overdo it, I stay on the trigger until I’m almost ready to fire again. I can sometimes shoot awesome groups with good factory ammo or handloads, and it usually feels good when I do. Specifically, the gun seems to recoil pretty much...

    Precision semi-auto peculiarities

I searched and didn’t find what I was looking for, so my stupid question is this: I always hear people say gas guns are much harder to shoot well than bolt guns. Assuming good fundamentals (which I’m still/always working on) and an accurate weapon, what specific things do I need to be mindful...

    Feedback Good Guy List

Had a great scope transaction with kevad68. He was flexible on payment and shipping methods, he shipped the next day after the evening he accepted my offer, and the scope arrived as described. Good to go.

    Hello from Wyoming!

Hahaha... I don’t know about that. There’s definitely a lot of eye rolling at some of the stuff said and done in the show, and I cringe every time someone says “ab-suh-roh-ka”, but Robert Taylor and Adam Bartley were grand marshals of the July 4th parade here this year, so someone must be a...

    Hello from Wyoming!

Hi everyone! I’ve been reading these forums and absorbing as much as I can for almost 2 years now, and I finally decided to register. Lots of fantastic info here. I’m working on the fundamentals mostly with an 18” .308 gasser as well as developing loads for it obsessively, but I hope to apply...
