Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Monday night we shot 11 in one stand. Ok fine, we shot 10 and then I killed 1 more as I was dragging all the carcasses into a pile. My buddy shot the first one, then I shot then next 10 in a row. We ended with 17 for the night.

    Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronograph

I'm not so much concerned about it reading neighbors shots as not reading at all, due to reflection off of concrete walls, ceiling, etc.

I saw a few references in this thread about use at indoor ranges, mostly short pistol ranges. What is the likelihood it would work well at a 100 yard indoor rifle range where the walls, ceiling, and floor are concrete, and you may have another shooter within 5 or 6 feet on each side of you?

The 75 ELDM out of a 22 Creedmoor is pretty rough on coyotes. From last weekend:

    WTF barrel worms?

Update: I cleaned the affected barrel using JB Bore compound the way @Baron23 detailed in post 159 above. After shooting about 10 rounds to settle it back in, I shot these two groups (scope adjustment in between). Still very much 'minute of prairie dog'. I don't think the dreaded "barrel...

Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Got 3 last weekend, but they were not exactly charging in. Had to reach out and touch one at over 400. The 22 Creed is good at that.

    WTF barrel worms?

Corrosion of some sort, and we're not positive why. Likely by leaving the barrel too dirty for too long in (possibly) higher than ideal humidity conditions... maybe. Powder type and cleaning agents are still suspects, but no arrests have been made. My takeaways: Clean more often and leave a...

    WTF barrel worms?

I'm not sure anyone that cleans after shooting has had this problem.

    WTF barrel worms?

I have a Golden rod, Hygrometer, new jags, and JB bore compound on the way. But I think the most important thing I learned is to clean more often, not just after a certain # of rounds. I'm not sure how well I'll actually follow that though... After cleaning, I'm not confident in my zero until I...

    WTF barrel worms?

Thanks. It actually shot pretty well the other day. At least it seemed to be 'minute of prairie dog' out to about 300 yards, which is pretty much all I need it to do.

    WTF barrel worms?

Thanks Frank. When you say "JB Bore Compound", I assume you mean the non-embedding bore cleaning compound, and not the Bore Bright, correct?

    WTF barrel worms?

Reviving this thread... I have recently been diagnosed with the dreaded "barrel worms". This is my 22-250 barrel. I don't scope it every time I clean it, but I keep track of every round fired by date, and every cleaning. It happened somewhere between 218 (2/13/22) and 742 (11/14/24) rounds...

Hunting & Fishing Let’s start a coyote thread.

Friday night we had some good action off a dead cow. Killed 4 that came in, and as we were looking for carcasses, 2 more showed up late. I shot one of those, but in my excitement to get my tripod back out and set up, I forgot the record button, so only 4 are pictured.

Made 3 sets last weekend, shot three doubles. It's definitely more luck than skill, but I'll take it.

    22 ARC. 5r or 6 groove

Bumping this thread to ask the current consensus on X-Caliber barrels. They seem to be well regarded, especially for the price. Their AR barrels page says this: We only guarantee 1 MOA or less if a Rubber City Armory or JP Ent. bolt is headspaced to the barrel by X-Caliber Barrel & Mfg. But...

    Best 5.56 bullet for Coyotes

What the heck is an "orange tip"? Hornady V-Max? If so, yes, that's what you want. 50, 53, or 55, pick one. Go buy a new bullet if you have to. The V-max is not expensive. I prefer the 53s, but they all do the same thing: penetrate a few inches and blow up. Most will not exit, but turn...

    22 ARC. 5r or 6 groove

There's a few threads about this, for example: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/barrel-rifling.7230411/ "They" say that 5R is easier on bullet jackets, and may collect less fowling / easier to clean. 🤷‍♂️
