Gunsmithing 40hp Rotary Phase Converter Startup

300sniper - I used to run a power plant with many gas turbines, each generator was rated at 75-100 Mw, put power out from generator leads at 13,800 volts, three phase, to a short bus duct system and air circuit breaker. From the breaker cabinet, went underground in 12 cables, 4 1000MCM cables...

Gunsmithing Decent setup for a new builder?

I think you have to ask what is your expected budget? If you are trying to get out on a shoestring, I think I'd give you a couple suggestions one way, if you really do have 100k to spend, I'd probably send you off in a slightly different direction, nicer machines, higher costs, much more...

    Funniest/dumbest things while enlisted

This was known as a Buffalo Roundup. Rules were: 1. Everyone puts $20 in the pile. 2. Have to meet the heifer, at the bar, in view of the other contestants. 3. Have to get her out of the bar, do the deed, and return her to the bar before midnite. That was the hard part, getting her back...

Five days in hell, need to vent

As we have all said and heard before: No Good Deed, goes unpunished........ Now, I did understand, that this is a teenage daughter. In most of the mother daughter "places" I have seen, from about 13 to 17, the two can't be in the same room. As she has a father, you obviously can't step in...

    Maggie’s pit cooking full deer

In Texas, we have shot a young doe or spike on Friday afternoon, dressed and quartered it, set it to soak over night. We put it on the smoker, not the pit, in the am, while guests are out on the morning hunt. Keep temp under 225 F, ( 100 C ) and it will be great by late afternoon. Less...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns First 1911

Your first 1911 - ought to be a .45, yes the other calibers are fine and all, but hey, a 1911 IS the .45. If all you are doing is shooting it, look at the Colt Gold Cup. Good trigger, sights etc, and it's a Colt, holds it value well. Around here you can pick a new stainless one up for a...

    Maggie’s pit cooking full deer

We've done dozens of them in Alabama as part of our give back to the landowners a couple times a year. It's basically done the same way we do a whole hog, except we quarter the deer, soak them 24 hours in salt water, and baste very frequently. Start cooking about six or eight am, be ready to...

375 H&H long distance hunter????? Can it be done.

We've played with the 375 H&H out to 750 ish yards, it's very capable. Pretty hard on steel up close, used just a 1.4x10 scope, but sure, it will work fine. Oh, and that was using stock 300 grain TSX factory ammo. 2500 fps or so, pretty mild.

    Gunsmithing Bandsaw blade question

One of the best fillet knives I ever used, my dad made from an old power hacksaw blade, when stuck on a ship, with no liberty ashore. Two or three passes on the grinder, then dunked in a bucket to cool, over and over, took forever, but the end product was worth it. When OP mentioned it was a...

    Gunsmithing Bandsaw blade question

Chop saw is the way to go. I once had to scrap a PILE of gas turbine blades - so that they could never be used again. I bought a cheap Dewalt chop saw and a bunch of carbide cut off wheels - made pretty quick work out of that. Millwrights threw one in the clamp, plunged the blade thru it -...

Hunting & Fishing Help me with a hunting sling for my 300WM

Vero Vellini is my go to rifle sling. I also have a couple of the Butlers Creek slings, good OK slings, the VV is better. Both my big African bolt rifles have them, no sling on the double.

Gunsmithing Help me find an Indicator

Yes it does, you can still read the dial in between the hash marks to get as close. Plus, with the .0005, you get .015 on the dial, instead of .005, makes it a bit faster to rough in the set up.

    "Enhanced"

As I find it more often, I must agree with VJJ here. Would have quoted the whole thing, but I'm lazy. I'd like to get some ink, but hell, I don't have twenty years with three wives added together - not thinking something I can't change like a shirt, is a good plan for me........

A different sort of query for you guys....

Unless it is learning something that doesn't change in time ( like basic engineering/math STEM type stuff, etc) by the time they get around to teaching it in school, it's out of use in general industry. The CNC world is dying for more good programmers and machinists, they are NOT the same...

    Roustabout Jobs

Good luck on the interview DD, my first oilfield job was with a wireline company. $20 bucks a hour, 19 days on 2 off, 90+ hours a week, OT ( 1 1/2 x base hourly ) for everything over 40 hours. That was in 1982, Texas. Good times, I caught up on a lot of bills, post college. Perfect job for...

Hmmmmm. Know what Mikee's definition of " boobs that are/not real" is? If I can get my hands on them, then they are definitely real!

    Gunsmithing Chuck shopping

I am running a set tru 3 jaw for chambering and threading, it's on a Hardinge. It does make it a little long for doing muzzles on shorter barrels, but a 6" extension threaded internally to match receiver threads works pretty good to extend the barrel. When I thread and chamber, I just leave...

Gunsmithing Feeding reamer too fast or maybe chip? Chamber/brass issue

Other than not pretty brass, though, it should not hurt anything. If it is extracting OK, and shooting that well, I'd be inclined to leave it be. As Chad says though, that ought to be visible by a little white light inspection. And should have been caught at initial assembly.

    Maggie’s Sex Pillow recommendations?

Kids plastic play slide - works - plus the kids love it and no one wonders what it is. Just may want to haul it in the bedroom before putting it in action. My daughters nickname is MLCB........Mommy's Little Cock Blocker.
