    Primer mixup

I'm trying to determine if I need to tear apart about 30 rounds of .223. This morning I realized that last night I inadvertently used Remington small pistol primers (5.5 ver) instead of the small rifle primers. I'd imagine the that pistol primers don't burn as hot as rifle primers.

    Brass Catcher....?

Re: Brass Catcher....? I picked one of these up when I'm just blasting ammo. It works about 75% of the time. The other 25% of the time it manages to drop between the wire structure next to ejection port. If you are just looking to keep the brass from flying and hitting your buddy next to...

Fieldcraft new use for spent brass

Re: new use for spent brass Here I was thinking it was a x-mas ghillie, so you can sneak around the bell ringers at various store fronts.

F T/R Competition Vortex PST FFP vs. Better SFP for F T/R

Re: Vortex PST FFP vs. Better SFP for F T/R I'd agree with SFP instead of a FFP scope. I picked up the 6-24x PST FFP and love the optics quality, but wish I'd gotten the SFP one. At 600 and 1000 yards it covers up way too much of the target at 24x.

    Easy Chronograph Set Up

Re: Easy Chronograph Set Up I'd been doing a variation of that (never thought to use a card) Thankfully up in WA it's been cold enough to see the beam with a little breath. However one day I got in a hurry and thought it was all lined up. I was sadly mistaken and dropped that poor chronograph...

Range Report The effects of side to side cant - field test/pics

Re: The effects of side to side cant - field test/pics I've got this on my rifle Vortex Bubble Level and I'm able to shift my eyes up to it without taking my cheek off the rifle. It wasn't until I went down to a 1000 yard match that I realized how much canting my rifle had an effect. But...

F T/R Competition Magnetospeed First Impressions

Re: Magnetospeed First Impressions I bought mine here a few months ago and has been great. The only "problem" I had was when I was doing some load development for my Savage 111 FCNS (30-06) where the barrel was to skinny. I had to use a bandana as an insert otherwise it'd come loose after...

    Concentricity oddites

Re: Concentricity oddites A point of clarification. The only thing I'm using the Hornady tool for is post bullet seating/concentricity checking. The Sinclair tool is being used post resizing/neck turning and post bullet seating.

    Concentricity oddites

I've got the sinclair's concentricity gauge as well as the hornady concentricity gauge. I've neck turned all the brass so that I'm getting .002" or less runout on the necks prior to bullet seating as there was a problem with neck thickness on the brass. I'm using the Forster Ultra Micrometer...

F T/R Competition Suggestions for rifle upgrades

Re: Suggestions for rifle upgrades Overall I've been happy with my 6-24 that I've got. This is the first time I've had a problem with mirage and being able to see the target. I shot an email over to Travis to see about timing and cost. I've talked to Jim several times at the Machias...

F T/R Competition Suggestions for rifle upgrades

Re: Suggestions for rifle upgrades Monte - Yeah, I was down shooting on target 6, relay 2. Funny, I spent about 20 minutes talking to John about his Master Class and Tubbs. He had made reference that what he didn't like about the Tubbs was there was only a single hold point on the LOP...

F T/R Competition Suggestions for rifle upgrades

Re: Suggestions for rifle upgrades Monte - Shot at the Leupold Cup @ Douglas Ridge. The wind there seemed to be l->r at the 600 and would kick up and then die and by the time I looked again it'd changed again. I've been looking at the Tubb and the Master Class buttplate replacement. I'm...

F T/R Competition Suggestions for rifle upgrades

Currently I'm running a bone stock Savage 12 F/TR .308, Vortex Viper 6-24 FFP scope. It's been doing fairly well at 300, 500, 600 competitions. Was rather humbled at my first 1000 yard shoot this last weekend (509-1x). The 300/500/600 yard matches I'm shooting a consistent 92-93% average over...

    Case neck runout problems

Re: Case neck runout problems Gau17 - I'm utilizing the RCBS Case Trim Pro with the case neck turner that comes with it. I've contemplated upgrading to the Sinclair case neck turner, though haven't yet.
