Gunsmithing Can this thread protector be fixed ?

Re: Can this thread protector be fixed ? Yeah, it'd just need to be threaded onto a 5/8"x24 holder and turned down in a lathe and then refinished. The only info that would be needed is the OD of the barrel where it meets the thread protector. I would also cut a deep countersink in the end...

Gunsmithing Gunsmiths - a dying breed?

Re: Gunsmiths - a dying breed? Yeah, I hear ya. I don't mind customers calling if they have a specific question about the job or want to change something, but when you get 50 "is-it-done-yet?" calls everyday you end up spending a lot of time on the phone and not a lot of time getting things...

Gunsmithing Gunsmiths - a dying breed?

Re: Gunsmiths - a dying breed? The problem with gunsmithing is that there is no shortage of tooling and supplies to buy and no shortage of impatient asshats calling/emailing 24/7 to get daily updates on their pet project. Customers like that account for 2hrs out of each work day for me...

    Gunsmithing Really dumb Brake question

Re: Really dumb Brake question The biggest problem you're going to have is that your new muzzlecrown is most likely going to be 22.5 or 45 degree because most drill bits and reamers don't leave an 11 or 12 degree chamfer. Also, the crown won't be cut cleanly because it is being...

Gunsmithing Parkerizing or blasting for coating prep?

Re: Parkerizing or blasting for coating prep? Sandblast the parts to get a dense parkerized finish, use a 60 or 80 AlOx grit. Glassbeading won't give you as dense of parkerizing because the beads create a lower surface roughness.

Gunsmithing muzzle brakes? help please lol

Re: muzzle brakes? help please lol Aluminum erodes quickly and is prone to cracking when used for muzzlebrakes. We only use P70/416SS, 4140CM, or 4340CM for our products, aluminum is good for some things, but muzzlebrakes aren't one of them.

    Gunsmithing Muzzle brake question

Re: Muzzle break question We do brakes like that, but I suspect you are thinking of Magnaporting which is usually done to the barrel itself. Our brake is a seperate piece

Gunsmithing Most effective muzzle brake ?

Re: Most effective muzzle brake ? Back to the topic at hand, our KA-1830 brake is extremely effective and lightweight. The clearance between the bullet and the baffles is about .008" (the bore is .016" larger than the bullet, compared to .030"-.045" on most brakes) so it doesn't allow much...
