    DA calculation from barometric pressure?

good luck! I work with a few weather guys, I'll see if they don't have an easier route to DA.

    DA calculation from barometric pressure?

per some aviation dudes: part 1: pressure altitude = (standard pressure - your current pressure setting) x 1,000 + field elevation part 2: density altitude = pressure altitude + [120 x (OAT - ISA Temp)] they define all the variables and have a good explanation here: Calculating Density...

UPDATE: Would you shoot in the rain AND 20-30MPH winds @600yds?

That's awesome! We get the gusty, quartering winds around here. I'm not always out in the 20-30mph wind, but those cross values changing anywhere from 2mph to 10mph in between shots are tricky. To the OP, I say go for it and have fun! miserable conditions make for memorable stories.

    DA calculation from barometric pressure?

Copy all, thanks for the explanation. In that case, sans computer and sans GPS, the best way (*as far as I know*) to calculate my DA is to have my Kestrel tell me physical altitude and temp, then reference a chart like Jo's. I can certainly accomplish those within the parameters of 500-1k feet...

    DA calculation from barometric pressure?

Jeffersonv: I recommend avoiding shooting in tycoons ;) ....when I type that record baro you listed into my calculator, the difference in drop from my corrected pressure today (didn't change temp or anything) was .7mils at 1,000yds. that is using corrected pressure methods, not the absolutes...

    DA calculation from barometric pressure?

jeffersonv, I think of baro pressure as the weight of the air. temp and alt can affect air density (and measuring those together gives you density altitude as previously stated), but so can weather patterns such as a storm being present, moving in or moving out. baro pressure will let you...

Statement from Kestrel. Battery corrosion. Must Read.

Gents, I'm not here to debate whether what Kestrel did is enough or not, but I just had one delivered and it does have a lithium battery inside. All the debate aside, I'm just here to say thanks to the hide members who went through (and are going through) what they did with their Kestrels and...

Phoenix Custom Rifles 300 Win Mag build

My tactical style rifle IS my hunting rifle and it weighs in at just over 13lbs. 10.2lbs isn't bad for a hunting rifle at all :)

Rifle Scopes Thinking about switching to MIL, steer me in the right direction

If you dial up 1/4moa, regardless of distance, you move 1/4moa. If you dial up .1mil, regardless of distance, you dial up .1mil. what that equates to in inches does change depending on distance, but we don't care about inches anymore, because we are mil/mil! that's the glory of it. don't worry...

Rifle Scopes Thinking about switching to MIL, steer me in the right direction

I converted from MOA to Mils about a year ago, easy transition man. instead of 1/4moa=.25" at 100yds, 1/10 mil=.36" at 100yds. So 1moa at 100 is an inch, and the knobs are usually divided into 4, giving you a .25" click at 100. 1mil is 3.6" at 100, but divided into 10, so each click is .36"...

My 300 yd 3/4in Group... Lets see groups past 100 yards.

You should be happy with that memphismtnr! 10 shots is a lot. I've also started reconsidering what 'nice' is for a target. with all the variables at 600+yards, I think its less about group size (unless you were just trying to shoot a small group anywhere on paper) and is more about each...

    960 Yards, 5 Shot group

nice work! I'ma try that license plate trick with my under powered bushnell 1200. I'm awful jealous at the apparent lack of mirage (at least from what I can tell in the video)...... now I'm all itchy to go shoot something from far away.

Fieldcraft Netting and supplies for a ghillie suit

...I do love KFC! Not that I'm worried about catching on fire, but all the kits mention being flame retardant. I imagine good ol fashion burlap is not. Just something to consider.

    Spike feet or rubber feet!

That's hilarious! I've been looking at those pod spikes in the for sale section for a bit now...think I need to go ahead and get some. My rubber feet haven't given me much of an issue, but they seem good at everything, great at nothing. Obviously the spikes won't do much on pavement (nor do I...

Not satisfied with my Remington 700's group size...

if you have a semi 308 on the way and this long action, I'd turn it into something like a winmag. putting that aside though, definitely take the advice the others have given. on top of all that, you may have just gotten a bad barrel or something, could just get it checked out by a smith, see if...
