    New 600 yd benchrest record group

    absolutely crazy group. Not to underestimate my rifle, but put it in a vice, have a machine pull the trigger with me only responsible for wind at 600yds and I couldn't do it. Benchrest or no, that is an outstanding group.

    Rifle Scopes Mirage management

    I agree with the notion that mirage can help. I was shooting at the 600yd mark and the wind literally changed 180* while shooting, and the first tip was change in mirage. I know the pain of shooting in a hot desert though and as suggested, lower power on the scope can help.

    Brux has a handy chart that may help you: Contour Chart I personally see a lot of MTU's, Light Varmints and Standard/Heavy Palma contours in the long range community, but there are many good options. Let me know if that helps.

    Great job everyone! I'll put one up. This is 600yds, holding over for a quartering 6mph wind, first three shots out of the rifle prone+bipod. I know its only three shots, but I'm not much of a group shooter and I shoot 178 amax's, so my supply is limited!! Right around 1.5", .24moa.

    That'll depend on your state game and fish regs, hk401. In several states, no, you don't need a license because they are over populated, but some states have weird rules. I wouldn't expect weird rules from WY, but you never know. Looking at the WY game and fish website, I don't see anything...

    PMs incoming to those who requested them. I guesstimated them to be about 28" from top of shoulder to bottom of chest, and that got me pretty close. Good luck George in AZ! I had a cow tag in my pocket last year as 5 bulls walked in front of me. Incredible sight, also really sad though.

    they are indeed different distances, and also taken at a bit of an angle so they may be appearing slightly smaller than they are. also, they are like averaged sized adult cows.

    sounds like a fun day! so how many shots did you get to take at 1600+ range? I agree with what everyone has said about it not being a consistent cartridge for that distance obviously, but there's nothing wrong with some fun! that range is especially far considering the elevation you noted, well...
