Really eye-ball the fired cases. Fired / reloaded several times .45 auto like to crack lengthwise due to work hardening.

Why Would Anyone Want to Shoot a Vintage Sniper Rifle?

I have built and bought many "old School"sniper rifles over my shooting life. I built one from parts while in the 'Nam which I still have and enjoy shooting. Doping the wind, staring through the mirage at a long range target using these old war horses is just so much fun.

And swing sets turned target stands

I use "Road Alligator's" for my club and they will take hundreds of hits and still hold up. Best part is that they are free and all over the place. If you soak them overnight in a tub of water they are very easy to cut.

8 Mag is going to 2,000 yards.

I had Douglas bore me a 29.5" XX barrel that is a very slow tapered turn to the muzzle where a J&P muzzle brake is attached. There is no real recoil to speak of. The new Hybrid powders were developed for the US Navy to increase range. They do that very well. At the same time, their burning...

    7MM Remington Magnum

MLC you need to try the new powders being made by St.Marks and being sold by Winchester, and Hornandy name brands. Your seven-mag will really shine using Winchesters 860 Supreme and 100V Hornandy powders. These are a new class of powders using a formula that is called Hybrid. You get scary...

    3650 Yard shot @ Whittington Center(375 Chey-tac)

We are very lucky out here with our weather and altitude. Both really allow such long shots to be taken. Long range shooting ranges are common and the shooters routinely shoot out to 2,000 yards as if it was a normal thing to do. Also BLM has open land where you can shoot for many miles if you...

How Do You Ship A 60" Gun ?

I would build a wooded crate. 1x2's to support the corners and a light ply wood for the walls. Pack it so there is no play in the crate. I have done this in the past and it worked well. It does not need to be built like a tank, just strong enough so the firearm is not damaged in transit. I have...

8 Mag is going to 2,000 yards.

Since last winter I have been working with my 8MM Remington Magnum rifle and the new powders / bullets being sold today. The results I'm getting on target are far better than I expected. I found in my rifle that the new Winchester 860 Supreme Hybrid powder is the powder for this cartridge...

Range Report Bullet questions.....need your advice

In Dr. Mann's Book " A Bullets Flight", he clearly noted and states you can do darn near anything to the nose of the bullet and it makes very little difference where the bullet will go. Do ANYTHING to the base of the bullet and it will not fly straight. Over my 50 years of shooting I can attest...

    Vault racks

Please understand if I do not provide more photo's. Security is key. The vault is deep underground. There is no moisture. 8% is a wet day. The walls are 18" thick steel reinforced. The air is moved constantly by a filter system and an ionizer. Dust is a much larger problem than water vapor. The...

Keeping Track - Number Of Firings On Brass

Swiss file a small notch in the rim/rimless base. Never wears off after tumbling. Your going to toss the brass later on either way.

    How to improve SD?

How hot did the barrel/chamber get? Did the light change over the chronograph? Was every shot fired over the exact same place in the chronograph? How was the ammo stored at the range/car? A super low SD means nothing if your rifle does not like the load. I have seen sub-10 SD's that were...

    bullet trap

I built my trap out of high pressure oil field pipe with a 7/16" thick wall. The base is one inch thick AR-500 plate. The pipe is 48" long. The two are welded together with two layers of weld. The bottom of the steel plate has a pyramid shaped wedge welded to it to provide a 45 degree angle to...

How Can I REMOVE Krylon from an optic?

Many of the cleaners will destroy the lens coatings. The best stuff to use is a Q-Tip wet with WD-40. It removes almost all types of paint when allowed to sit. It will not hurt the coatings.

    bullet trap

I built mine that will stop a .50 BMG. It's not the best thing to shoot indoors but it does work. Since the range is 65 miles away, I test all my loads in it. I'll post photo's later on. Total cost was under 20 bucks.
