    Gunsmithing Threading Barrel ?

Re: Threading Barrel ? I would advise re-crowning when threading for a can or brake if, the round count was over 500-600 rounds. While the g-smith has the barrel trued up, it would be a perfect time for a fresh crown. JMHO.

    Gunsmithing Bedding question

Re: Bedding question Some bed 2" of the barrel and some don't bed any of the barrel. Before you go "trashing" your gunsmith, shoot the rifle and see how it shoots. May be a moot point.

    Gunsmithing Ithaca 37

Re: Ithaca 37 That model Ithaca has been around for years. The only real drawback is, that they feed and eject from the bottom. This can sometimes cause problems.

    Gunsmithing extractor question

Re: extractor question Dave, you make a very good point about keeping the loading port away from your face. I shoot right handed and it will always be RBRP for me!

Gunsmithing measuring coned bolt face tenon

Re: measuring coned bolt face tenon I do a lot of builds on "Glue ins". Obviously you can't screw the action on the barrel to check the cone fit. I made a set of screw on jigs to check cone fit and headspace. One set for 30 degree cones and one set for 25 degree cones.

    Gunsmithing Bolt face erosion?

Re: Bolt face erosion? Sako type extractors have been serving Rem shooters for years. I have never seen the results of a blow up when a Sako style extractor injured anyone. I think a lot of the horror stories, that are circulated, are just that, Stories.

    Gunsmithing Bolt face erosion?

Re: Bolt face erosion? Bushing the firing pin hole will not stop hot gas from escaping around the primer and etching the bolt face.

    Gunsmithing Bolt face erosion?

Re: Bolt face erosion? The "circumfrential groove", as Al so aptly described it, appears to be where the bushing was put in to accept an after market extractor. You don't even want to see the BF in my VH rifle.

Gunsmithing Rem 700 Firing Pin Assembly

Re: Rem 700 Firing Pin Assembly I would not use an Aluminum firing pin. I don't care what the tip is made of.

Gunsmithing Rem 700 Firing Pin Assembly

Re: Rem 700 Firing Pin Assembly The bolt shroud is either aluminum or steel and has no affect on locktime at all. Many people building lightweight hunting rifles will opt for the aluminum bolt shroud to save weight.

Re: 700 Bolt question It will jump less with a case in the chamber. P.S. I'd get rid of that ridicule and go for a Mil-Dot reticle. Ha Ha.
