Yes, you will need to use the (black knob) set screw to lock down the center column. Especially if you are using a ball or panning head, you will want that black knob tightened down.- AMTeam4

Direct mounting a saddle takes a little more skill but there is a stability advantage. You would loosen the center column to pan left/right. And loosen the saddle itself to adjust elevation or scope cant. Once positioned, you retighten the saddle. It sounds ghetto but most people pick it up...- AMTeam4

2-3 weeks is the estimate. A large batch of tripods are sitting in the Long Beach harbor waiting to land in port. They've been there for a week already. Some kind of port congestion is holding up the unloading process. Sounds strange but I guess this happens on occasion.- AMTeam4

The PIG0311-G tripod and PRST carbon fiber tripod use the standard 3/8-16 male mounting thread. 99% of all tripod heads & panning bases use this thread pitch. 1% of the odd balls will use 1/4-20 threads. Those are usually very small heads that would not be appropriate for a rifle or spotting...- AMTeam4

Vetronix Terrapin or Sig kilo 2400?
The scanning mode is bad ass on the Kilo. An awesome feature when in the sticks or lasing through loose vegetation. The Terrapin is hard to beat for ELR magnum shooters though.- AMTeam4

Unfortunately not. The 700 model feet are hollow. For the PIG0311-G tripod we machined custom aluminum fittings for the spiked feet & rubber feet to thread into. I'll look into doing a retrofit kit but that wouldn't be anytime soon.- AMTeam4

There is definitely a stability advantage to direct mounting a saddle, and not using a ball head. There is also the benefit of reducing weight and overall cost by ditching the ball head. Walter, measure the space between your mag well and front bipods. Anything less than 6", you would need to go with the shorter version. Teufelhunden, I haven't tried the pads to build a cheek weld yet. I don't see why it wouldn't work.- AMTeam4
